Job Description

About Andromeda

Andromeda is building autonomous surgical robots designed to help surgeons perform procedures more safely, consistently, and efficiently. Our engineers work across robotics, software, hardware, machine learning, and clinical operations to bring robotic systems from concept to real-world deployment. We are a small, highly collaborative team that values ownership, curiosity, technical rigor, and the ability to move quickly from idea to execution.

The Role

We are looking for a Lead Hardware Engineer to help design, build, and deploy the next generation of our surgical robotic platform. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on turning ideas into working systems. You will work across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and system integration challenges, helping bridge the gap between concept and real-world deployment. We are looking for an engineer who enjoys building complete systems, not just individual components. This is an individual contributor leadership role—you will drive technical direction while staying hands-on in the build.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead hardware development across robotic subsystems.
  • Design, prototype, test, and iterate on new hardware solutions.
  • Work across electrical, mechanical, and embedded systems.
  • Drive hardware architecture decisions and technical tradeoffs.
  • Collaborate closely with controls, software, robotics, and clinical teams.
  • Debug complex system-level issues across multiple disciplines.
  • Support manufacturing, testing, and deployment efforts.
  • Help establish engineering processes, standards, and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

Hardware Engineering

  • Strong experience developing complex hardware systems.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines, not just one.
  • Hands-on prototyping and debugging experience.
  • Familiarity with electronics, sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and system integration.
  • Experience taking products from prototype through deployment.

Systems Thinking

  • Ability to understand and reason about complete system behavior.
  • Comfortable making engineering tradeoffs across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Leadership & Ownership

  • Ability to independently drive projects forward as a hands-on individual contributor.
  • Comfortable operating in environments with incomplete information.
  • Experience leading technical decisions and influencing engineering direction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Robotics experience.
  • Embedded systems experience.
  • Experience with motors, actuators, and motion systems.
  • Experience working in startups or small engineering teams.
  • Experience taking products from prototype to production.
  • Medical device experience, particularly in hands-on product development environments.
  • Experience with design documentation, quality management systems (QMS), or regulated product development processes.

What Success Looks Like

Successful hardware engineers at Andromeda are builders first. They are comfortable moving between disciplines, solving problems wherever they appear, and taking ownership of systems from concept through deployment. They thrive in fast-moving environments, collaborate closely with teammates, and focus on delivering reliable solutions that work in the real world.
