Kum Tho has over 10 years of venture and private equity investing experience. He joined UOBVM in 2010. Kum Tho is responsible for investment into good companies, monitoring of portfolio companies and divestment. Prior to joining UOBVM, Kum Tho spent 5 years helping to grow a startup to a company of more than 1800 employees, with a subsidiary in Singapore and the buildup of 2 subsidiaries in Suzhou, China. Through the process, he was VP of Finance and Administration and subsequently VP for Strategic Planning. He also helped see its holding company through a public listing and assisted the company in navigating through the 2008/09 financial crisis. Kum Tho started his venture capital and private equity career in Vertex Management, where for 9 years, he invested in companies based in China, Taiwan and Singapore and was instrumental in setting up a new fund to invest in Israeli and Israeli-related companies. He lived 5 years in the Silicon Valley where he had the opportunity to invest and work with companies in the USA. Kum Tho was an Infantry officer in the Singapore Army and was responsible for marketing and promotions in support of recruitment while being an Honorary Aide-de-camp to the President concurrently. Kum Tho obtained his BBA (Honours) from the National University of Singapore and completed the Berkeley Executive Program at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. He is conversant in Chinese and Cantonese.
