Roland Scharrer is an appointed fellow and currently a visiting research scholar at Stanford University, where he concentrates on conducting research and driving innovation in AI within regulated industries, including finance, insurance, healthcare, mobility, and legal sectors. This work is conducted in collaboration with Stanford CODEX and Stanford HAI centers. Before joining Stanford University, Roland served as the Group Chief Data, AI & Emerging Technologies Officer at AXA, based in Paris. In this capacity, he was responsible for shaping the vision, strategy, investments, implementation, and governance of Data, AI, digital transformation, and emerging technologies in collaboration with AXA entities, expert communities, and strategic partners worldwide. Before AXA, Roland held the position of Chief Data Scientist at Capgemini Consulting (now Capgemini Invent) in Germany, focusing on digital transformation in Europe's automotive and financial services industries. Roland Scharrer's academic journey is as diverse as his professional one. Spanning natural sciences, computer science, statistics, social sciences, and business administration has equipped him with the unique ability to foster interdisciplinary engagements and mediate between disciplines collaboratively, making him a trusted advisor to various venture capital funds, startups, and NGOs. Roland's educational journey includes studies at JMU Würzburg, ESADE Barcelona, IMD Lausanne, HPI Berlin, MIT Sloan, and UC Berkeley, among others. He holds an MS in Computer Engineering, an MS in Business Information Systems, and an Executive MBA. His contributions have been recognized through appointments as a senior fellow at MIT Connection Science and a fellow at Stanford CODEX.
