Konstantin Gredeskoul is a dynamic technical leader, seasoned startup CTO, and avid open-source contributor with a track record of delivering scalable, high-performing solutions. For two and a half decades, he has excelled in roles ranging from individual contributor to VP of Engineering, consistently bridging product, engineering, and operations through exceptional communication skills and deep technological expertise. EARLY FOUNDATIONS Konstantin graduated magna cum laude from Monash University in Australia, where he studied abstract mathematics and applied statistics. This strong analytical background laid the groundwork for his subsequent move to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he immediately began helping startups scale their products and teams. GROWING TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP Within just one year of joining his first Bay Area company, Konstantin was promoted from Senior Engineer to Systems Architect, overseeing the design of an extensive distributed system powered by Oracle, C, Perl, and JavaScript. His passion for innovative technology soon led him to Blurb.com, where he guided the development of one of the early online marketplaces using Ruby on Rails. He next joined ModCloth.com, a vintage-inspired women’s clothing retailer, to lead a new in-house engineering team in taking over an outsourced e-commerce platform. Building on this entrepreneurial momentum, Konstantin co-founded Drop In Media, a premium SMS/MMS service and product company in the U.S. Under his leadership as CTO, the entirely bootstrapped venture achieved profitability, hired over 10 editors and content producers, and grew its subscription list to more than 200,000 users—all while architecting and managing a Java-based subscription system. CTO ROLES and SCALING SUCCESS Konstantin’s passion for innovation culminated in his role as CTO at Wanelo (short for “WAnt NEed LOve”), a newly funded social media platform often compared to Pinterest for shopping enthusiasts. He successfully introduced Extreme Programming (XP) and full-time pair programming, practices embraced by the engineering team throughout his four-year tenure. Under his guidance, Wanelo scaled to 25 million active users, peaked at 10,000 requests per second, and maintained a 99.995% uptime by proactively solving scalability challenges. During this time, he also focused on recruiting top engineering talent, from experienced senior developers to promising junior boot camp graduates—one of whom, Amiti Uttawar, became a Forbes Under 30 honoree and a contributor to the Bitcoin project. OPEN-SOURCE CONTRIBUTIONS and THOUGHT LEADERSHIP A prolific contributor to the open-source community, Konstantin has authored over 40 Ruby gems, collectively downloaded more than 170 million times.
