Henry Carter

Henry Carter is a co-founder and managing partner of Jamestown Capital, an Austin, Texas-based private equity firm focused on operational value creation in lower middle market businesses. Carter oversees investment decisions and transaction structuring, and takes direct operational responsibility inside portfolio companies after close.

Before founding Jamestown Capital, Carter spent nearly a decade at IMC Trading, one of the world's largest high-frequency trading firms. At IMC, he developed high-frequency options market-making strategies and traded mega-cap tech equity options, ultimately serving as Head of Index Options. The role required pricing models, execution infrastructure, and risk controls that had to function without margin for error — and where small inefficiencies, left unaddressed, compounded into measurable losses.

The discipline Carter developed in high-frequency markets — where a model either performs under pressure or doesn't — now shapes how Jamestown evaluates operational infrastructure in traditional businesses. Owner-operated companies running on institutional memory rather than data, with systems built for survival rather than scale, are exactly where the firm concentrates. Carter's focus is finding where a business's infrastructure is the binding constraint on profitability and rebuilding from there. Across Jamestown's portfolio, he has led operational audits, platform migrations, data architecture decisions, and revenue process improvements.

Carter holds a degree from Oxford University, where he studied physics. Carter is based in Austin, and new deal activity is concentrated in Texas, where he and his co-founder can maintain direct, in-person involvement with portfolio companies.
