Frederick Fritz

Rick Fritz joined Bank Boston in 1970 and, after completing their Loan Officer Development Program, he focused on New England technology and middle market lending as well as large corporate relationship management. He also held regional responsibility for the Western U.S. From 1981 to 1985, he served as commercial banking head at Bank Boston’s London branch office, serving indigenous European companies and the bank’s multinational client base. In 1985, Mr. Fritz returned to head the bank’s private equity activity in Boston, and subsequently opened offices in London, Hong Kong, Palo Alto, Sao Paulo, and Buenos Aires. The portfolio grew to over $3 billion split between direct investments (25% technology/75% buyout) and investment funds (over 300 fund families). In 1997, BancBoston Capital raised the first of four Fund of Funds for institutional and high-net-worth investors. Mr. Fritz served as chairman of the Investment Committee for each Fund, where $700 million is under management today. He obtained his BA degree in economics from Middlebury College and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business.
