Director of Savannah Technologies Ltd. David Mouko Elizaphan Omaanya was previously Country Director and East Africa Business Head of the African payments unicorn Flutterwave. ‘Unicorn’ is a business term relating to a private company that has been valued at $1 billion or more; there are 750 unicorn companies worldwide, according to CB Insights. Flutterwave’s aim is to create a payments infrastructure to better connect Africa to the global economy. To this end, the company builds the tools, technology and infrastructure businesses and banks need to provide a seamless and secure payments experience to customers. Flutterwave has attracted significant investment from organizations including Greycroft, Greenvisor Capital and Glynn Capital. Flutterwave has processed 25 million transactions totaling almost $2 billion in payments since its inception in 2016. Flutterwave has its headquarters in San Francisco, California, and is one of the world’s fastest growing payment companies. It was named Africa’s best fintech company at the 2017 Apps Africa Innovation Awards. Elizaphan has extensive experience in fields including fintech, digital payments, banking, blockchain and strategy. After working as Senior Operations Officer at United Bank for Africa from 2009 to 2011, he moved to Imperial Bank, where he held the role of Assistant Manager of E-Channels and, subsequently, Product Manager of the Transactional Banking division. In 2015, he took up the role of E-Commerce Manager at Equity Bank Limited, Nairobi, before becoming the Head of Electronic Business at GTBank Kenya where he worked from 2016 to 2019.
