Brian Dougherty

Brian Dougherty graduated from Centre College in the spring of 2007 with a BS in computer science. He entered the PhD program at Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2007 as a Teaching Assistant with a focus in distributed & embedded systems. In the spring of 2008, Brian joined the Distributed Object Computing (DOC) group at Vanderbilt’s Institute for Software Integrated Systems (ISIS). Since then, he has obtained 23 accepted publications (11 journals, 8 conferences, 3 book chapters and 1 workshop) in respected venues such as IEEE’s Transactions on Software Engineering and the International Conference on Software Engineering. In addition, he has 2 conference publications currently under review. Brian received his MS from Vanderbilt University in May of 2009 and his PhD in May 2011. In June 2011, Dr. Dougherty accepted a position as a Research Associate in the Mobile Applications, Genetic optimizatioN, and cloUd coMputing (MAGNUM) group in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. Since then, he has instructed a variety of projects in several research areas including mobile device security, mobile device accessibility, predictive cache modeling and analysis, and user localization. He also currently serves as a Visiting Research Scientist for the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Dr. Dougherty has worked closely with several industry and government partners including The Lockheed Martin Corporation, Air Force Research Labs, Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Labs, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and CIO Office of the DOD. As of January 2012, Dr. Dougherty parted ways with Virginia Tech to serve as Co-founder and Program Manager of Optio Labs.
