This position will work with a variety of geospatial data types and sources using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, enterprise geodatabases, SQL, and related geospatial tools.

The successful candidate will support the maintenance of a global geodatabase currently hosted in Oracle, as the environment transitions to PostgreSQL/PostGIS. Responsibilities will include creating and updating geometries, maintaining topology and attribution, performing data migrations and transformations, and conducting data compatibility, quality control, and quality assurance testing.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with complex geospatial datasets, troubleshooting data issues, documenting results, and collaborating with developers, database administrators, system administrators, and mission stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, update, and maintain geospatial data using ArcGIS Pro/QGIS.
  • Work with a variety of geospatial data types and sources, including vector, raster, imagery, web services, and externally provided datasets.
  • Maintain and update global geospatial datasets within enterprise geodatabases.
  • Support the transition of geospatial data from Oracle to PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  • Create, modify, and validate spatial geometries, including points, lines, polygons, and other geometry types.
  • Maintain spatial topology and identify, resolve, and document topology errors.
  • Create, update, and validate feature attributes, domains, subtypes, schemas, and related metadata.
  • Perform data transformations, migrations, conflation, and integration activities as required.
  • Develop and execute data tests to evaluate compatibility with target systems, applications, schemas, and databases.
  • Conduct data quality control and quality assurance reviews to identify errors, inconsistencies, missing information, invalid geometries, and attribution issues.
  • Develop repeatable procedures for data validation, quality assessment, and error tracking.
  • Perform spatial analysis and produce accurate, well-designed geospatial products.
  • Troubleshoot data, database issues.
  • Support the publication and maintenance of GIS services, web maps, and geodatabases.
  • Document data sources, processing steps, validation procedures, identified issues, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with developers, database administrators, project managers, system administrators, and mission stakeholders to resolve data and application issues.
  • Stay current with relevant ArcGIS, QGIS, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and geospatial data-management capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of professional GIS or geospatial data-management experience.
  • Experience using ArcPro or another comparable desktop GIS application.
  • Experience working with multiple geospatial data types, formats, and sources.
  • Experience maintaining or updating geodatabases.
  • Experience creating, editing, transforming, and validating spatial geometries.
  • Experience with topology creation, maintenance, and validation.
  • Experience managing geospatial attribution, schemas, domains, subtypes, and metadata.
