OUR MISSION
We exist to create a more connected, compassionate, and confident experience for people with cancer and those who care for them. We make it easier to get answers, access high-quality care quickly, and feel supported throughout treatment and beyond.
Today, Thyme Care is a market-leading value-based oncology care enabler, partnering with national and regional health plans, providers, and employers to deliver better outcomes and lower costs for thousands of people across the country. Our model combines high-touch human support with powerful technology and AI to bring together everyone involved in a person’s cancer journey: caregivers, oncologists, health plans, and employers.
As a tech-native organization, we believe technology should strengthen the human connection at the center of care. Through data science, automation, and AI, we simplify complexity, improve collaboration, and help care teams focus on what matters most: supporting people through cancer.
Looking ahead, our vision is bold: to become a household name in cancer care, where every person diagnosed asks for Thyme Care by name. If you’re inspired to make cancer care more human and to help reimagine what’s possible, we’d love to meet you. Together, we can build a future where every person with cancer feels truly cared for, in every moment that matters.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Staff Software Engineer on the New Initiatives team, you will lead the technical development of a new, zero-to-one initiative focused on applying AI into how care decisions get made in oncology, helping people get the right, evidence-based treatment at the moment it matters. Working closely with clinical, operations, product, and business leaders, you will turn complex, loosely defined problems into working products, test what creates meaningful value, and lay the technical foundation for a solution that will grow into a category-defining platform.
This is a hands-on, full-stack role for an engineer who is equally comfortable learning from users, shaping a product, designing systems, and shipping production code. You will work across web applications, APIs, data integrations, and cloud infrastructure and may contribute to established product areas as company priorities evolve. Much of this work sits at the intersection of applied AI, clinical guidelines, operational workflows, and automated decisioning, in a regulated setting where accuracy, auditability, and trust are non-negotiable.
Lead a major initiative or product area from early discovery and prototyping through production launch, iteration, and sustained delivery.
Partner with clinical, policy, and operations leaders to understand complex care-decision workflows, then translate clinical guidelines and operating rules into logic our systems can execute reliably.
Own architecture and hands-on development across web interfaces, APIs and services, data models, integrations, and cloud infrastructure.
Build polished front-end experiences with Vue.js and TypeScript and reliable back-end services with Python, FastAPI, and Postgres, deploying and operating them in AWS.
Design, prototype and productionalize LLM-powered capabilities for high-stakes care decisions, from automated decisioning and document understanding to conversational and chat experiences.
Develop the evaluation, prompting, and guardrail patterns that make automated decisions accurate, safe, auditable, and defensible to clinical, provider, and health-plan stakeholders.
Use AI-enabled development tools to compress the loop from idea to working prototype, then harden what proves valuable into durable product.
Move quickly during exploration while making thoughtful decisions about security, privacy, reliability, and when a prototype should become a durable product.
Create reusable technical foundations and patterns that accelerate future initiatives.
Communicate tradeoffs clearly, build alignment across teams and partners, and drive decisions when the path forward is uncertain.
Strengthen engineering quality through mentorship and effective practices in design, testing, code review, documentation, and technical decision-making.
Build systems that speed the right decision and reduce friction for the clinicians and patients on the other side of it.
WHAT YOU’VE DONE
Built, launched, and supported complex software products or systems from an initial idea through ongoing production operation.
Led zero-to-one or early-stage product development when the problem, requirements, and path forward were not fully defined.
Built polished front-end applications and robust back-end services as a full-stack engineer.
Worked with JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks such as Vue.js, React, or Angular and back-end technologies comparable to Python and FastAPI.
Designed APIs and data models, worked with relational databases such as Postgres, and operated services in a cloud environment such as AWS.
Leveraged AI-enabled development tools to prototype and ship production software with high velocity.
Designed and shipped LLM-powered product features and made them reliable in production.
Made sound architectural decisions while balancing speed, user needs, security, reliability, and future change.
Worked within a new business line, internal venture, incubation team, or similarly fast-changing environment.
Influenced product and business direction through technical judgment, communicated effectively with a range of partners, and improved engineering quality beyond the code you personally wrote.
