Job Description

OUR MISSION

Imagine building a better healthcare journey for cancer patients, where individuals and their loved ones feel seen, supported, and heard by their care team – both in and out of the clinic. Where fast access to high-quality care is the norm, not the exception. Where patients have access to a care navigator to guide them through their diagnosis and trusted support all along the way.

At Thyme Care, we share a passion for transforming the cancer care experience – not just for patients but also for their caregivers and loved ones, as well as those delivering and paying for their care. Today, Thyme Care is known predominantly as a cancer care navigation company enabling value-based cancer care; in the next few years, we will become a nationally recognized technology-driven and provider-centric care delivery model, reshaping the landscape of cancer care access, delivery, and experience. Our commitment runs deep—we're not satisfied with the status quo but determined to redefine it.

To make this happen, we’re building a diverse team of problem solvers and critical thinkers to drive innovation and shape the future of healthcare. If you share our vision and want to be part of something truly meaningful, we want to hear from you. Together, we can revolutionize cancer care and make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Join Our Team as a Medical Director for Oncology.

We are looking for a Medical Oncologist to join our clinical team as a Medical Director for Oncology. In this role, you will serve as a strategic clinical leader, working across functions to advance our clinical programs, support our frontline care team, and contribute to Thyme Care's broader organizational priorities. You will have three core responsibilities:

1. ePRO Program Leadership: You will own and drive the evolution of our electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) program, ensuring we deliver measurable outcomes for our members. This means setting the clinical vision for how we collect, interpret, and act on patient-reported data, and working alongside cross-functional teams to bring that vision to life. You will guide program design and iteration, establish and refine clinical thresholds and escalation pathways, enable staff training, and track key performance indicators. You will work closely with our technology and product teams to ensure our ePRO tools reflect current clinical evidence and meet the needs of our member population. Your leadership will ensure that ePROs are a meaningful and scalable part of how we support members throughout their cancer journey.

2. Frontline Care Team Support and Clinical Collaboration: You will serve as a clinical resource for our frontline care team, providing education, guidance, and direct collaboration to support quality care. This includes participating in case conferences, offering oncology expertise for complex or escalated clinical situations, and partnering with our Oncology Nurse Navigators and Community Health Workers on challenging cases. You will contribute to care team education through structured training sessions, clinical updates, and ongoing feedback. You will help our team stay current on evolving oncology standards and ensure clinical practices across the organization are grounded in evidence and aligned with member needs. You will also have the opportunity to do virtual visits with our members.

3. Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives: In close partnership with cross-functional partners, you will lead and contribute to strategic initiatives across the organization. This includes developing and maintaining clinical protocols, helping members access clinical trials, and representing Thyme Care in external meetings with payers, health systems, and other partners. You will serve as a clinical voice on oncology issues, contributing to how Thyme Care is positioned in the broader oncology landscape. You will also support the development of clinical content, policy positions, and responses to external clinical questions as they arise.

This role offers an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking, supportive, and highly collaborative team. This role reports to our VP for Clinical Outcomes & Quality, and you'll work remotely or in a hybrid setting from our Nashville or New York City offices.

Within your first three months, you will:

  • Complete training and be up to speed on Thyme Care's systems, tools, technology, partners, and clinical expectations. You will develop a working understanding of our member population, care model, and the clinical and operational context in which we operate.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our ePRO program, including its current state, clinical thresholds, escalation pathways, and roadmap. You will build relationships with key stakeholders across clinical, product, and technology teams, and begin identifying opportunities to improve program design, workflows, and outcomes.

  • Build relationships with our Oncology Nurse Navigators and Community Health Workers, participate in case conferences, and begin serving as a trusted clinical resource for the frontline care team. You will start contributing to care team education and providing guidance on complex or escalated clinical situations.

  • Engage with cross-functional partners and begin contributing to active special projects and strategic initiatives. This may include supporting clinical protocol development, participating in external meetings, or contributing to Thyme Care's clinical positioning on oncology issues.

WHAT LEADS TO SUCCESS

People-first. Thyme Care’s mission and members matter to you deeply.

Experience. You have at least 3 years of clinical experience caring for oncology patients after fellowship training with board certification in medical oncology. You have an unrestricted medical license and a willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed. It would be exceptional if you have experience with electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) implementation, iteration, and reporting.

Organized. You’re skilled in juggling multiple tasks and working under pressure without sacrificing organization in your communications and documentation.

Effective listener and communicator. You are decisive and articulate, but you always start by listening, and you hear what may not be voiced because you listen so intently to others. You build rapport and excellent working relationships with members and colleagues.

Comfort with ambiguity. Start-ups are fast-paced environments, and you understand that rapid changes to the business, strategy, organization, and priorities are par for the course… and part of the adventure.

A desire to learn how to use new technologies. We are a technology company focused on interacting with folks during the season when they need it most. Experience with video chatting, Google Suite, Slack, electronic health records, or comfort in using and learning new technology is vital.

Identify priorities and take action. You know how to identify and prioritize a member's needs and do what it takes to address urgent needs.

OUR VALUES

At Thyme Care, our core values guide us in everything we do: Act with our members in mind, Move with purpose, and Seek diverse perspectives. They anchor our business decisions, including how we grow, the products we make, and the paths we choose—or don’t choose.

Individual pay decisions are based on several factors, including qualifications, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity relative to other Thyme Care employees. The salary range could be lower or higher than this if the role is hired in another location or at another level.

We recognize a history of inequality in healthcare. We’re here to challenge the status quo and create a culture of inclusion through the care we give and the company we build. We embrace and celebrate a diversity of perspectives in reflection of our members and the members we serve. We are an equal-opportunity employer.
