Job Description

Mechanical Assembly and Rework Technician - Contract Position

The Mechanical Assembly and Rework Technician will support the assembly, modification, and rework of large battery busplates and related components. Initial work will focus on connector soldering, adhesive-backed assembly, fixture operation, part cleaning, and tab-removal rework. As the role expands, the technician may support additional prototype and low-volume production activities involving large-format mechanical and electromechanical assemblies. This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and consistent execution of documented processes.

Responsibilities

  • Solder electrical connectors onto large busplates using established techniques and work instructions.

  • Assemble busplates and related components using adhesives, compression fixtures, fasteners, brackets, and hand tools.

  • Support prototype builds, engineering trials, and low-volume production of large-format mechanical and electromechanical assemblies.

  • Perform controlled rework and part modifications using Dremels, sanders, files, deburring tools, and similar equipment.

  • Prepare and clean surfaces and completed parts to meet manufacturing cleanliness requirements.

  • Inspect assemblies for dimensions, alignment, fit, surface condition, and overall workmanship using basic measuring tools.

  • Set up and maintain tools and fixtures, identify assembly issues, and provide feedback to improve tooling and work instructions.

  • Organize materials and document completed work, process results, and observed defects.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all requirements for soldering equipment, adhesives, power tools, and PPE.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, trade-school training, or technical certification preferred.

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, fabrication, production rework, equipment assembly, or a similar environment.

  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, assembly fixtures, and basic measuring equipment.

  • Experience with Dremels, sanders, files, deburring tools, or similar fabrication and rework tools.

  • Soldering experience preferred; ability to learn and consistently perform a product-specific soldering technique.

  • Familiarity with adhesives, surface preparation, clamping, bonded assemblies, or torque-controlled fastening is preferred.

  • Ability to read and follow drawings, work instructions, rework instructions, and visual standards.

  • Experience with busbars, busplates, battery components, sheet-metal assemblies, or industrial equipment is a plus.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform precise, repeatable work.

  • Strong attention to detail, safety, cleanliness, and workmanship.

  • Basic documentation and data-entry skills.

  • Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and manufacturing teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand and perform repetitive assembly tasks for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to handle and position large components safely.

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring dexterity, precision, and hand-eye coordination.

  • Ability to safely operate soldering equipment, hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and rotary tools.

  • Ability to wear required PPE and work in controlled manufacturing or laboratory environments.

Work Environment

  • Onsite, hands-on laboratory and pilot-line operations.

  • Day shift: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

  • Swing shift: 3:00 PM–11:30 PM.

The expected duration for the contract is 3 months to start and this is a non-exempt hourly role.
