Design Engineer

We’re building Regbase to make incredibly complex regulatory work feel incredibly simple. As a Design Engineer, you’ll own how that happens in the product: turning dense information, complicated workflows, and new AI capabilities into intuitive, polished experiences that feel obvious to use.

You’ll work closely with the founders and directly with customers to understand how they work, identify where the product falls short, and rapidly design and build better solutions. You’ll spend most of your time in the product, writing code, prototyping interactions, and refining the details that make software feel great. You’ll touch every level of the product, from refining a small interaction to designing and building entirely new workflows from scratch.

You want an unreasonable amount of ownership over a product. You care deeply about how software works and feels, love turning messy real-world problems into simple experiences, and would rather prototype and ship your ideas than hand them off. We’re early enough that many of the core interactions, workflows, and design conventions of Regbase still need to be invented, and you’ll have a huge role in defining them.

What you will do:

• Design and build polished, intuitive experiences across Regbase's core product
• Own features from problem definition through interaction design, implementation, and refinement
• Become a mini-expert in legal and regulatory systems around the world
• Work directly with customers to understand their workflows, pain points, and mental models
• Work closely with the founders to shape product direction and prioritize what we build
• Set a high bar for the visual and interaction design of the product
• Help establish the visual language and interaction patterns of Regbase

About you:

• 3+ years of experience in Design and Frontend development
• Strong visual and interaction design instincts
• Intellectually curious about laws, regulations, and public policy
• A strong frontend engineer who can take ideas all the way into production
• You can take an ambiguous user problem and independently figure out what should be built
• You care obsessively about the details of how software behaves and feels
• Able to simplify complex systems and information-heavy workflows
• Excited about AI products and interested in developing new interaction patterns around LLMs and agents

Bonus if you are:

• Comfortable in Typescript, React and Next.js
• Experienced building design systems or reusable component libraries
• Experienced designing data-dense, workflow-heavy, or professional software
• Experienced building interfaces for AI products
• Comfortable talking directly with customers and conducting lightweight user research
• Have worked at an early-stage startup or in an environment with high product ownership
• Located in or willing to relocate to New York

• 2 hour technical interview with CTO (Ethan Shea, former staff engineer at Vercel)
• 10 minute interview with CEO
• If you’re available, ideally we would like to do a paid 3-5 day work trial and see if it’s a good fit, or a take-home project
