Job Description
About Radiant
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
About the Role
Radiant is scaling fast - expanding factory operations, standing up multi-entity structures, and taking on both government and commercial deployments. This role will manage our liability exposure in a centralized manner - owning programs across all teams and building out our risk infrastructure.
As Risk & Compliance Lead, you will build and own Radiant's risk management function from the ground up - mapping exposure across the entire business, optimizing our insurance and other risk-coverage programs (including layered nuclear-related coverage requirements), and identifying / prioritizing / closing gaps before they become findings. You will mature our programs into a proactive, structured risk governance, and you'll be the connective tissue between insurance brokers, legal, operations, IT, security, finance, and regulatory teams.
This is a high-visibility, largely individual-contributor-to-start role reporting directly to the VP of Finance with the mandate to scale into a broader risk function as our footprint grows.
What You'll Own
Risk Mapping & Liability Structuring:
Build and maintain comprehensive liability mapping across Radiant's entities, business units, and deployment channels (government and commercial).
Design risk isolation strategies (both contractual and insurance-based) appropriate to Radiant's multi-entity and GOCO/COCO structures.
Advise leadership on liability implications of new facilities, long-term contracts, entity formations, and market expansion.
Insurance Program Design & Optimization:
Own end-to-end design, procurement, placement, and renewal of Radiant's insurance program, including Nuclear, Property, General Liability, Auto, Workers' Compensation, D&O, and other applicable lines.
Manage layered coverage requirements tied to nuclear-related operations, ensuring adequacy, compliance, and cost-efficiency.
Continuously evaluate coverage-to-exposure ratios to close gaps and eliminate redundant or underperforming spend, driving improved insurance ROI.
Financial Risk Mgmt & Risk Quantification:
Develop recommendations based on risk exposure, partnering with Finance on contingency adequacy and reporting.
Build reporting frameworks and KPIs to provide leadership, Board, investors, and lenders a clear, insightful view of Radiant's risk posture.
Cross-Functional Partnership:
Serve as the primary bridge between insurance brokers, carriers, legal, operations, IT, security, finance, and regulatory/licensing functions on all matters of risk and compliance.
Partner with BD on new deployments (government and commercial) to ensure risk and coverage considerations are built in from the start, not retrofitted after the fact.
Identify and remediate gaps proactively across regulatory and licensing requirements, reducing exposure to gaps and audit-driven contingent liability findings.
Work closely with our Regulatory Engineering team to own compliance procedures relevant to operations, keeping documentation and processes audit-ready at all times.
Required Qualifications & Skills::
8+ years of experience in risk management, insurance brokerage, underwriting, or a related compliance discipline; experience in regulated, multi-entity, or government-contracting environments strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience designing and procuring insurance programs across multiple lines of coverage.
Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks; familiarity with NRC requirements or other highly regulated licensing environments is a strong plus.
Experience structuring liability and risk isolation strategies across multiple legal entities (e.g., GOCO/COCO structures).
Experience quantifying risk exposure and developing contingency reserve recommendations, with working knowledge of relevant accounting principles (GAAP/statutory) as they apply to risk and insurance.
Additional Requirements:
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
Benefits and Perks
Stock: Substantial incentive stock plan for all full-time employees.
Medical: 100% up to base silver level plan for employee + 50% dependents, offers up to Platinum plans.
One Medical: Sponsored memberships for employees and their dependents.
Vision: 100% top tier plan coverage + 50% for dependents.

8-weeks of paid parental leave for all parents. Additional paid pregnancy leave for CA employees.
Daily catered lunch. Free snacks and drinks.
Flexible PTO policy. Remote workday allocation.
Company and team-bonding events, happy hours and in-person camaraderie.
Beautiful El Segundo headquarters close to the Pacific Ocean.
Total Compensation and Benefits
Radiant compensates people for impact and invests in those who continue to raise the bar. Radiant’s new hire compensation package includes base salary, substantial equity grants, and comprehensive health benefits. Total compensation and level are determined through a rigorous evaluation of interview performance, experience, education, and qualifications, and are designed to support continued growth as scope, responsibility, and impact expand at Radiant.

About Radiant
Radiant is a clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.
