Job Description
About Radiant
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
About the Role
Radiant is seeking an Engineering Manager, Electrical Systems, to lead the electrical engineering team responsible for test infrastructure and system integration for Kaleidos, Radiant's commercial microreactor unit targeted for deployment in 2028. You will manage a team of electrical engineers while owning cross-functional stakeholder relationships and driving execution from early architecture through hardware bring-up, testing, and commissioning. The ideal candidate brings deep electrical engineering expertise, proven people management experience, and a track record of delivering complex hardware programs on tight timelines.
Responsibilities & Duties
Lead and grow a team of electrical engineers, owning hiring, performance management, and technical development.
Own electrical and software integration requirements spanning power distribution, signal conditioning, sensor mapping, actuator interfaces, and device simulation.
Manage schedule, budget, and vendor relationships for electrical hardware and integration activities.
Drive electrical validation strategy; establish test procedures, methodologies, and best practices across the team.
Own cross-functional alignment with embedded, controls, software, and mechanical engineering teams.
Oversee test infrastructure build-out and establish the test environment as a foundational asset ahead of the 2028 deployment target.
Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
Required Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including hands-on hardware design, integration, and test.
2+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring and team development.
Demonstrated ability to drive programs with significant scope and ambiguity under tight timelines.
Experience with DAQ and test systems (e.g., NI PXI, dSpace, Speedgoat, or similar).
Proficiency with LabVIEW, TestStand, and at least one scripting language (Python, C++, C#, or similar).
Strong electrical and software debugging and root cause analysis skills.
Desired Qualifications
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
4+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring and team development.
Familiarity with real-time simulation systems and/or FPGA-based hardware.
Experience with controls fundamentals and software testing processes.
Background in high-reliability, safety-critical, or regulated industry environments (aerospace, defense, nuclear, medical, or automotive).
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.

About Radiant
Radiant is a clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.
