Job Description
About Radiant
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Radiant is seeking a highly motivated Director, Nuclear Engineering to organize nuclear design and analysis strategy spanning the design, operation, and iteration of our microreactor fleet.

Develop and standardize analysis roadmaps to enable fast iteration across multiple reactor programs
Foster an attitude of ownership and mentorship within the team
Define the approach to nuclear engineering design margins and methodical peer reviews
Interact with universities, national labs, and other outside entities as necessary to accomplish key objectives
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Hold a degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or engineering physics from an accredited institution
Minimum 10 years of experience managing a team in reactor design and analysis

About Radiant
Radiant is a clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.
