What you need

  • 3+ yrs shipping hardware for harsh environments
  • Mechanical design for sealing, wet/cold conditions
  • Electronics design for reliable field deployment
  • Proficiency with power, cabling, connectors, grounding
  • Write and execute hardware qualification test plans

What you'll do

  • Qualify hardware designs for harsh, wet environments via test campaigns
  • Ensure field hardware reliability, easy setup and maintenance
  • Optimize vision systems for wet, reflective, moving fish
  • Create repeatable install kits with documentation, manage suppliers
  • Travel 20-25% to farms for installation and field learning

Make vision hardware survive fish farms and processing plants, then make it repeatable: sealed hardware for wet, cold sites, reliable devices in the field, and installs we can ship anywhere.

OctaPulse builds computer vision and robotics for aquaculture. Fish farming is one of the fastest-growing food production systems on the planet, but its most important checks still depend on people with nets, calipers and clipboards. Our vision systems help farms see every fish and record what happens on the line.

That hardware lives in bad places: daily washdowns, salt spray, cold, vibration and remote sites.

You will turn that into hardware we can trust and repeat: qualified designs, reliable field hardware and install kits we can ship to a new site. This is not a lab role. We care about hardware that keeps working when nobody from OctaPulse is standing next to it.

This is an early engineering hire under our CTO, on-site in Dallas (Frisco area) with up to 20 to 25% travel to farms and processing sites. Very few people are strong at all of this. If you are strong in either mechanical design for harsh environments or electronics and can learn the other fast, apply.

What you'll build

  • Field-ready hardware, qualified. Take our designs from prototype to a released product that survives harsh, wet environments, and prove it with a real test campaign rather than hope.
  • Reliable hardware in the field. Make our hardware dependable and easy to set up and maintain, wherever it is installed.
  • Measuring wet, shiny fish. Help our vision hardware see wet, reflective, moving animals clearly and consistently, and characterize how it behaves on the real thing.
  • Repeatable install kits. Make installs repeatable, with clear documentation. Work with machine shops and suppliers to get parts made right. Then go on site, install them and learn what breaks.

You might be

  • Someone who has shipped hardware that lives outside a lab: outdoors, in a plant, on a vehicle or at sea.
  • Comfortable with mechanical design for sealing and harsh environments.
  • Comfortable with electronics for reliable field hardware.
  • Good with power, cabling, connectors and grounding.
  • Methodical about testing. You write the qualification plan and then actually run it.
  • Willing to travel up to 20 to 25% of the time to farms and processing plants, and fine with cold, wet and loud.
  • Able to work on-site in Dallas, TX (Frisco area).

Bonus

  • Marine, subsea or food-grade washdown hardware experience.
  • Experience working with machine shops and suppliers on drawings, quotes and inspection.

About OctaPulse

OctaPulse uses AI vision to automate hatchery QA for fish farms, starting with broodstock phenotyping and juvenile deformity inspection. We cut inspection time from about 5 minutes to under 30 seconds per fish, with more than 90 percent accuracy, so farms advance only high quality fish and waste less feed and labor. Our goal is to bring automation across the entire fish production lifecycle for the $300B aquaculture industry. Aquaculture is the fastest growing food sector, and has already surpassed commercial fishing for production of seafood. Yet two of the most critical QA and QC steps in fish production are still done by hand: phenotyping and deformity inspection. These processes are slow, error prone, and despised by technicians but vital for the success of the farm, so much so that farms spend >$200K a year on trained technicians and geneticists to operate. We’ve built an AI vision platform for vertically integrated finfish farms that drops into existing workflows starting in the hatchery, uses off the shelf cameras, standardizes these QA steps, and creates a proprietary multi species dataset that becomes the brain for future autonomous aquafarms. Phenotyping is the start, but the platform is designed to be a drop in solution that can easily expand into feeding, health monitoring, and processing so we can solve production problems across the lifecycle. We signed a 6-figure paid pilot with the largest trout producer in the United States, are deploying into 2 more farms early 2026, and trained models above 90 percent accuracy while cutting inspection time from 5 minutes to under 30 seconds. Each deployment adds labeled images to our dataset and improves cross species generalization.
