Kobalt is the AI-native compliance operating system for financial institutions (FIs). Compliance is critical for FIs to get right, but most of their work still happens manually, in legacy technology or Excel.

Banks, credit unions, and fintechs across the country use Kobalt to run third party due diligence, screen marketing collateral, and stay current with the ever-changing regulatory landscape. Since our Series A, we've grown revenue more than 5x and work with some of the most notable names in financial services, including Chime, Upstart, and Affirm.

The Role

Engineers at Kobalt own products end-to-end, from understanding the customer problem and shaping the technical approach through building, shipping, and operating the solution in production.

As a Backend Software Engineer, you'll build the systems that power Kobalt's products, from the data models and APIs behind complex risk and compliance workflows to the infrastructure that powers our AI. You'll have significant ownership from day one, designing and building systems that need to be reliable, scalable, and flexible as our product and customer base grow.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and operate backend systems that power Kobalt's core products and workflows.

• Build AI-powered features that automate complex, historically manual risk and compliance work.

• Own technical projects end-to-end, from architecture and data modeling through implementation, deployment, and iteration.

• Build reliable APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure that support increasingly complex customer workflows.

• Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our systems as Kobalt grows.

• Work closely with other engineers and Customer Success to understand customer needs and turn them into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications and APIs.

• Strong understanding of databases, data modeling, distributed systems, and production infrastructure.

• Experience designing and owning substantial backend systems from initial architecture through production.

• Ability to reason through complex technical problems and make thoughtful architectural tradeoffs.

• Strong attention to reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Compensation and Benefits

• $250k base salary + equity, with equity based on experience and scope
