Job Description

About Juno

Juno is an AI health assistant built for the 1B+ people managing chronic illness.

We turn patient conversations, biometrics, and medical history into a longitudinal health profile, then use it to surface patterns and deliver personalized guidance.

More than 150,000 people already use Juno. Our goal is to make Juno the clinical specialist that lives in your pocket.

About the role

We're hiring our first AI founding engineer.

You'll work directly with the founders to design and build the AI systems at the core of Juno: conversation intelligence, health reasoning, retrieval, and the infrastructure that keeps it fast and reliable.

What you'll work on

  • Design and ship the LLM pipelines that power Juno's conversations and health reasoning
  • Build retrieval and memory systems that turn patient history into personalized guidance
  • Own model evaluation, prompt quality, and safety guardrails for a clinical-grade product
  • Build data pipelines that extract structured signals from conversations, biometrics, and records
  • Work closely with the founders to turn ambiguous product ideas into working AI systems
  • Use AI-native tools to prototype and ship faster than most teams think possible

What we're looking for

  • You've built and shipped production AI systems, ideally involving LLMs, RAG, or agents
  • You're comfortable across the stack: backend services, data pipelines, and model integration
  • You have strong Python skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks
  • You know how to evaluate, test, and harden LLM-based systems for reliability
  • You care about precision and safety, especially when the product touches people's health
  • You can move fast and take ownership without needing much process
  • You can relocate to San Francisco (we can sponsor a visa)

Nice to have (but not required)

  • Experience in healthtech or with regulated/sensitive data
  • Startup or founding engineer experience
  • Open-source contributions to AI or ML tooling

How to apply

Send us a short note with:

  • Why Juno feels interesting to you
  • An AI project or system you've built and are proud of
  • Your GitHub, portfolio, or a demo

About the interview

  • Prescreen: 30 min call with a founder
  • Work trial: we'll fly you out for a 3-day work trial with the team

Interview Process

Our process

We move fast and keep this simple, usually completing all steps within about a week.

  • Prescreen (30 min): A casual call with a founder to talk through your background, what you've built, and what you're looking for next.
  • Technical deep dive (60-90 min): We'll dig into a past project or system you've built, focusing on real decisions you made around LLMs, retrieval, evaluation, or production reliability.
  • Work trial (3 days): We'll fly you out to San Francisco to work side by side with the founding team on a real problem from our roadmap. You'll be paid for your time.
  • Offer: If it's a mutual fit, we'll move quickly with an offer and can usually answer any questions within a day or two.

We know interviewing takes real time and energy, so we try to be transparent and fast at every step.

About Juno

Juno is an AI personal health assistant for the 1B+ people living with chronic illness. Juno builds a longitudinal health profile from conversations, biometrics, and medical history to identify patterns behind symptoms and provide tailored guidance. Isaac and Marshall started building Juno after growing up with chronic conditions and spending years trying to understand their symptoms. Like millions of others, they waited months for appointments and struggled to explain complex medical history in 15 minutes. As a result, key signals are missed, contributing to an average diagnosis time of 7.6 years. Even after receiving a diagnosis, patients are often left without a clear treatment plan and have to manage their condition alone. Many use AI chatbots for support, but without context on their medical history or symptom progression, they receive generic advice that is rarely actionable. Juno solves this by building a continuous, structured health profile for each user and connecting this fragmented health information. We spent the last year conducting research at Oxford and UCL to build our proprietary engagement layer for daily conversations, allowing Juno to ask the right questions at the right time and understand each user's health better than anyone else ever could. We launched in October and are already at $600k in annual run rate, supporting 50,000+ patients globally. We’re building a future where everyone has a private clinical specialist in their pocket, 24/7.
