About Us

Cambium is a growth stage company modernizing the trillion dollar wood supply chain. It's an industry still run by thousands of small, disconnected suppliers, where most wood is pushed out in the hope it finds a buyer. We start with what the customer needs and build the supply chain back from there. We pair our own physical operations with software that removes waste and gives buyers visibility from forest to finished product. Customers like Amazon, Equinox and Room & Board rely on us, Fast Company named us one of its Most Innovative Companies, and we're growing both organically and through acquisitions. We're looking for ambitious, energetic people to help build it.

About This Role

We're hiring a Director of Accounting to own Cambium's accounting function. You'll take books that moved from QuickBooks and Sage into NetSuite and make them clean, structured and audit ready. You'll run a reliable monthly close across the parent company and acquired subsidiaries, and lead the accounting integration of each company we acquire. This is a hands on leadership role: you do the work, and you lead the offshore accounting team that does it with you.

What You're Walking Into

This is a build role. The first six months are heavy on cleanup, but nothing is missing: all the data is there, it's just unstructured. Your job is to give it structure and get it to sing, while running the close and integrating the acquired companies. You report to the VP Finance, with room to grow the team as we scale.

What Success Looks Like: First 12 Months

  • The historical books are clean (first six months). Every balance sheet account is reconciled and supported, the QuickBooks and Sage history ties out in NetSuite, and deferred revenue runs on a method that ties to shipments.

  • The close is reliable. The chart of accounts is redesigned, and the close lands in under 10 business days every month, with consistent coding by business unit and revenue center. Budget versus actuals pulls straight from NetSuite with no rework. Budgeting and FP&A analysis sit elsewhere on the team.

  • The subsidiaries are in. Acquired entities are on NetSuite OneWorld, and intercompany and consolidation run as part of the monthly close.

  • The offshore team works to your standard. Routine reconciliations and entries are right the first time, and you review rather than redo.

  • The books are audit ready. Accounting policies and controls are written down and followed.

What Success Looks Like: Beyond 12 Months

  • A five day close.

  • A clean audit. You lead Cambium through its external audit and own the auditor relationship.

  • Acquisitions plug in on a playbook. Each new company is on our chart of accounts and in the consolidated close within 90 days of closing.

  • A team you built. You hire and develop in house accountants as we grow. How far the seat goes is up to you.

What You'll Do

  • Own the month end close across the parent company and subsidiaries, completing within 10 business days.

  • Reconcile and clean up historical balances, and bring legacy QuickBooks and Sage data into a consistent structure in NetSuite.

  • Redesign and own the chart of accounts and segment structure across business units and revenue centers.

  • Fix deferred revenue, and decide whether NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management is the right long term tool.

  • Lead the accounting integration of acquired subsidiaries into NetSuite OneWorld, including intercompany and consolidation.

  • Lead our offshore accounting team day to day: assign the work, review it and hold the quality bar.

  • Own accounting policies and controls, keep the books audit ready, and own the external auditor relationship.

  • Own the accuracy of inventory, WIP, COGS and project costing.

  • Partner with the Finance Operations Manager on AP, AR, billing and project costing.

  • Partner with our NetSuite owner on configuration, and keep NetSuite as the system of record rather than spreadsheets.

Qualifications (Must Haves)

  • 6 to 10 years of accounting experience, including owning a month end close end to end.

  • Has personally cleaned up or rebuilt messy books, ideally a QuickBooks or Sage migration into NetSuite.

  • Has managed accountants, including outsourced or offshore teams in other time zones.

  • Multi entity accounting: intercompany, consolidation, and folding acquired companies into an existing chart of accounts.

  • Inventory and COGS accounting at a company that moves physical product.

  • Deferred revenue and revenue recognition for product or project businesses.

  • Hands on NetSuite experience across parent and subsidiaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, active or previously held.

  • Has led or participated in a financial audit.

  • Has integrated acquired companies into an existing accounting system.

  • Experience with NetSuite OneWorld or Advanced Revenue Management.

  • Experience with Sage or Great Plains.

The Details

  • Reports to: VP Finance

  • Salary range: $140K to $195K

  • When: We're looking to fill this role immediately

  • Where: Remote within the US, with periodic travel to San Francisco (roughly monthly at first). SF Bay Area, Duluth MN, Baltimore MD or New London CT a plus.

  • Equity options package

  • Unlimited PTO and a flexible schedule

  • 401k matching

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance
