POSITION SUMMARY
Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Specialist Materials & Process Engineer, advising on Materials & Processes (M&P) requirements for spacecraft environments, selecting and certifying spaceflight hardware for properties like flammability and corrosion, and ensuring compliance through testing and documentation reviews. It requires expertise in metallic and nonmetallic materials, preparation of technical reports, and M&P documentation such as certifications and test plans, and participation in project milestone reviews.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise, guide, and provide consultation on applicable Materials & Processes program requirements for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments.
- Perform materials selection, assessment, and certification of custom and off-the-shelf commercial spaceflight hardware, including flammability, toxicity, vacuum outgassing, corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
- Define testing and certification requirements and evaluate test results for compliance with requirements at the project level.
- Provide expertise and review of project documentation and drawings for space flight hardware to verify that requirements are met.
- Review vendor documentation to ensure processes and procedures (e.g., qualification, specification, control, training, testing, acceptance, etc.) meet M&P requirements.
- Knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, and testing.
- Preparation and delivery of technical reports during participation in project milestone reviews.
- Write M&P documentation as needed, including certifications, process specifications, test plans, etc.
- Daily tasks include interfacing with internal and external customers at all levels and working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Participation in a collaborative learning environment.
- Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership
- Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle
- Perform additional job duties as assigned

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field, with 2–7 years of experience; or
- Master’s Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field. Or 1–5 years
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Requirements
- This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.

- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
