Job Description
Who we are
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.
Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.
Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.
This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.
We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.
If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.
What you'll do
- Help build the Strategic Finance function supporting Picnic, a growing business reinventing how employees experience lunch at work. You will work closely with the Head of Strategic Finance and business leaders to strengthen Picnic’s financial foundation and help shape its next stage of growth.
- Own and continuously improve Picnic’s financial model, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, developing a detailed understanding of the operational and financial drivers of the business.
- Build management reporting and KPI frameworks that provide leadership with a clear, forward-looking view of performance, explain the drivers of variances, and identify actions the business should take in response.
- Partner closely with Accounting during the monthly close process to ensure actuals are complete, accurate, and appropriately reflected in management reporting and forecasts.
- Lead headcount and operating expense planning, helping functional leaders connect resource allocation decisions to the company’s priorities and expected returns.
- Serve as a trusted finance partner across operations, product, sales, marketing, and engineering, bringing analytical rigor and an independent perspective to important business decisions.
- Evaluate strategic opportunities across growth, pricing, unit economics, cost optimization, market expansion, product development, and business model innovation.
- Conduct competitive intelligence, including market sizing, competitor analysis, product comparisons, and industry research, to help leadership understand Picnic’s position and identify new opportunities.
- Partner with Corporate Development to evaluate relevant investment, partnership, and acquisition opportunities.
- Improve the systems, tools, and processes that support planning and decision-making, while taking on increasingly broad and complex strategic responsibilities as you develop your understanding of the business and earn the trust of its leaders.
What we're looking for
- Approximately 4 to 6 years of experience in a highly analytical environment, ideally investment banking, private equity, growth equity, venture capital, a family office, hedge fund, or management consulting.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills and the ability to build clear, accurate, and flexible models from the ground up.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including the capacity to structure ambiguous questions, identify the most important drivers, and reach well-supported conclusions.
- A strong record of academic achievement and a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, mathematics, or another highly analytical field.
- The ability to move fluidly between detailed execution and big-picture thinking. You are as committed to getting the underlying numbers right as you are to using them to influence important decisions.
- Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and operational analysis into insights that business leaders can understand and act upon.
- A high degree of ownership, independent judgment, and bias toward action. You take initiative, pressure-test assumptions, form your own point of view, and drive work forward even when a problem is not perfectly defined.
- A low-ego, team-first mindset. You collaborate generously, seek and incorporate feedback, and are willing to do the work required to help the team succeed, regardless of how visible or glamorous it may be.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to precision, paired with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment where information may be incomplete.
- Intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, and the ambition to continually improve your capabilities, deepen your understanding of the business, and take on greater responsibility over time.
- Interest in joining an in-person, highly collaborative team based in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.
- We encourage and expect thoughtful use of AI. AI can be a powerful tool for research, structuring analyses, brainstorming, and improving efficiency, but it is not a substitute for judgment, strategic thinking, or financial reasoning. The strongest candidates will use AI as a thought partner to enhance their thinking while maintaining full ownership and mastery of their work.
