Media relations 

ASML is increasingly visible to the outside world and is recognized as a European high-tech supplier to the global chip industry. The media relations team supports and strengthens ASML’s business goals and reputation as an innovation powerhouse, trusted employer and community stakeholder. ASML operates at the intersection of technology, national security, industrial policy and international trade—making clear, consistent communications a critical contributor to trust and understanding. 

 

Due to the dynamics in our industry, complexity and strong growth, the media is interested in who we are, what we do and what we think – our technology, people, global footprint, supply chain, and our role in the semiconductor ecosystem. Increasingly, coverage also focuses on policy and geopolitical topics such as export controls, trade measures, industrial policy, strategic partnerships, and the broader implications of semiconductor leadership. Aligning our messaging, managing information flows, and knowing when to communicate which messages to which audiences—while managing a system of issues communications—are key contributors to our reputation and business goals. 

 

We maintain strong relationships with the international media in a friendly and transparent manner, in good and in bad times 

 

Job mission 

Your mission is to maintain and expand relationships with the media and to bring our messages via the media to our key external audiences. The focus of this role is on media engagement surrounding government affairs and geopolitics. Together with others on the media relations team, you develop a strategy to position ASML as a European high-tech supplier to the world, employer of choice and a good corporate citizen—while helping stakeholders understand ASML’s role in policy, trade and international dynamics that shape our industry. You also increase knowledge about government affairs and geopolitical topics among communications colleagues worldwide. 


Role and responsibilities

 

  • You develop and execute a proactive strategic media plan that supports ASML’s core messages and business goals related to government affairs, public policy, trade and geopolitics. 

  • You ensure that your media plans and activities have clear objectives that are tied to business goals, geopolitical strategies, and key target audiences, allowing you to analyze, measure, evaluate and show if and where we made a difference.  

  • You keep up to date with developments in our business, technology and policy environment and translate these into media opportunities for your audiences. 

  • You will work with other communications teams, the government affairs function, and legal/compliance teams to identify and advise on media initiatives that support our reputation and enable informed public debate. 

  • You draft and review statements, press materials and Q&A on policy and issues topics (e.g., export controls, trade measures, industrial policy and supply chain resilience), arrange media briefings/interviews, and engage with journalists from U.S. and international media. 


Context of the position 

This new position will be part of ASML’s U.S. Communications team with a strong dotted line to the media relations team located in the Netherlands. You report directly to the Head of U.S. Media Relations and you will replace her during absence. You work closely with our international media spokespersons and internal stakeholders across ASML (on all levels, including Board of Management) to support strategic decision making—particularly on issues where technology, policy and geopolitics intersect. You will also work daily with the U.S. Government Affairs team. The position is based in Washington, D.C. and is a hybrid role, working in the ASML D.C. office at least three days per week. 


Education and experience

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy or equivalent combination of education and/or experience 

  • Experience in issues communications across government affairs/public policy and geopolitically sensitive topics, preferably in a global listed company, public affairs environment, or journalism 

  • A high affinity for / experience in technology/ the semiconductor industry 

  • Strong stakeholder management experience, working on executive level in an international environment and proven ability to influence and network

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:

$110,250-165,375

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.

The Company offers employees and their families, medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to participate in the Company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month and (13) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
