Job Description

Introduction to the job

ASML brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that enable the world’s leading chipmakers to manufacture faster, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips. Headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, ASML has major U.S. locations in Chandler, Arizona; San Jose and San Diego, California; Wilton, Connecticut; and Hillsboro, Oregon.

As a Senior Electronics Connectivity Design Engineer, you will lead the design, integration, and validation of reliable electronic connectivity solutions for ASML’s EUV source and lithography systems.

You will drive electrical architecture decisions across PCBAs, cabling, interconnects, racks, and subsystem interfaces, ensuring compliance with requirements for EMC, signal integrity, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements, evaluate trade-offs, guide implementation, and support suppliers and development partners throughout the product lifecycle.

As a subject matter expert in connectivity, you will contribute to technology roadmaps and promote best practices for high-reliability electronics in advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Role and responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a submodule's electrical connectivity architectures, including PCBAs, cables, harnesses, racks, cabinets and subsystem interconnects.

  • Participate in the definition of module specifications and maintain electronic hardware requirements, interface definitions and validation plans.

  • Maintain Cable Overview (CO) and Detailed Wiring (DW) diagrams owned by the department.

  • Design, review and qualify PCBAs for control, monitoring and communication applications.

  • Select appropriate hardware components and architectures to implement required functionality within complex, high-precision systems with multiple interdependencies.

  • Drive EMC/EMI compliance activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including design reviews, mitigation strategies and qualification testing.

  • Define design rules and layout constraints for signal integrity, grounding, shielding, high-speed interfaces and EMC performance.

  • Support schematic capture, component selection, design verification and root-cause analysis activities.

  • Lead troubleshooting and failure analysis at board, module and system levels.

  • Collaborate with system architects, software engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers and suppliers to deliver robust electronic solutions.

  • Review supplier designs and provide technical guidance on electrical design, EMC performance and qualification readiness.

  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and support the adoption of best design practices, including state-of-the-art hardware architecture and design methods.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to project teams.

  • Transfer technical knowledge to manufacturing, service and support organizations.

  • Communicate technical risks, trade-offs and mitigation proposals to stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Job description is subject to change at any time.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in electronic hardware development.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing PCBAs and electronic modules for industrial, semiconductor, aerospace, medical, automotive or similarly demanding applications.

  • Demonstrated experience developing electrical connectivity solutions, including cables, harnesses, racks, enclosures and interconnect systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with PCBA design, schematic capture, component selection and design validation.

  • Hands-on experience with EMC/EMI design techniques, test methodologies and applicable regulatory standards.

  • Experience supporting EMC qualification activities, including emissions and immunity testing.

  • Experience defining grounding, shielding, filtering and signal-integrity strategies for complex electronic systems.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary product-development teams.

  • Experience troubleshooting at board, module and system levels.

  • Experience using laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and communication bus analyzers.

  • Experience using schematic capture and hardware design tools; experience with Capital, XPedition, Altium Designer or similar platforms is preferred.

  • Familiarity with high-speed digital interfaces, including Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, PCIe or similar technologies.

  • Understanding of reliability engineering concepts, including MTBF, HALT, ALT and DFMEA.

  • Experience with configuration management and engineering change-control processes.

  • Familiarity with supplier collaboration and outsourced development models.

  • Knowledge of semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, motion control or precision mechatronic systems is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of connectivity, EMC, grounding, shielding and electrical integration principles.

  • Solid fundamentals in analog and digital electronics.

  • Hands-on knowledge of EMC certification and compliance testing to IEC, EN, CISPR, FCC, CE or equivalent standards.

  • Knowledge of high-speed digital PCB design, signal-integrity analysis and interface constraints.

  • Ability to define grounding, shielding, filtering and EMC mitigation strategies for complex electronic systems.

  • Ability to create clear technical specifications, design documents, validation plans and engineering reports.

  • Structured problem-solving skills for root-cause analysis, troubleshooting and failure analysis.

  • Knowledge of functional safety principles, electronics safety requirements and high-reliability hardware qualification.

  • Understanding of semiconductor capital equipment, complex mechatronic systems or regulated hardware environments.

  • Ability to communicate technical risks, trade-offs and mitigation proposals clearly to engineering stakeholders.
