Manufacturing – Production Engineer (Mechatronics) – Linkou
Job Description
Introduction to the job
ASML’s Production Engineer Team in Linkou supports mature product lines—including PAS5500, YieldStar (YS), Reticle Handler (RH), and XT—through a cross-functional engineering organization of over 450 engineers across mechatronics, mechanical, electrical, software, and system integration.
Production Engineers combine the strengths of Development & Engineering (D&E), Manufacturing, and Customer Support to ensure stable factory output, rapid root-cause analysis, and structural improvements across mature system generations.
As a Production Engineer (Mechatronics), you will work on high‑precision, multi‑axis motion platforms involving wafer/reticle stages and handlers. The role focuses on servo dynamics, precision motion behavior, calibration/mapping, vibration/resonance analysis, mechanical‑control coupling, and system-level mechatronics troubleshooting.
This position is ideal for engineers with experience in motion control systems, servo tuning, precision automation, or high‑accuracy mechatronics equipment, who want to work on nanometer‑precision platforms in a global high‑tech environment. Engineers who enjoy analyzing motion behavior, improving system dynamics, and solving complex mechatronics interactions will find this role especially rewarding.
Role and responsibilities
Precision Mechatronics Troubleshooting
Diagnose mechatronics issues in PAS5500/YS/RH/XT modules, including precision stages, handlers, linear motors, voice‑coil actuators, encoders/interferometers, air bearings, and motion assemblies.
Analyze following error, overshoot, settling time, stick-slip, friction, backlash/compliance, thermal drift, vibration/resonance, and their effects on motion accuracy and system stability.
Perform frequency response / Bode / FFT / PSD analysis to identify system modes, structural dynamics, and control‑mechanical interactions.
Motion & Control Interaction Analysis
Interpret PVA (position/velocity/acceleration) profiles and distinguish mechanical contributions from control or electrical effects.
Collaborate with Software & Control / Electrical / Mechanical engineers on servo tuning (PID/Gain/Feedforward), notch filters, motion profiles, controller parameters, and sensor–actuator integration.
Validate hypotheses using controlled experiments; isolate root causes related to mounting stiffness, cable routing influence, mode coupling, encoder alignment, or structural disturbances.
3rd-Line Engineering & Structural Fixes
Define structured problem statements after 1st/2nd-line troubleshooting paths are exhausted.
Partner with D&E for in‑depth root cause analysis, proposing and validating structural solutions such as:
improvements to mechanical interfaces
enhanced stiffness/damping
vibration isolation measures
calibration/mapping optimizations
motion tuning packages
Support ECN reviews, NPI introduction, and implementation of permanent fixes.
Production Support & Stability Improvements
Ensure factory stability for mechatronics modules through experiment design (DOE), data analysis, performance trending, and structural improvement implementation.
Drive cross-functional efforts to improve yield, robustness, MTBF, and reduce recurring escalations.
Documentation & Diagnostic Improvements
Maintain and enhance procedures for motion tuning, calibration, alignment, error-table diagnostics, and mechatronics troubleshooting.
Identify gaps in diagnostics and develop new measurement steps, test sequences, or motion evaluation methods.
Mentor junior engineers and strengthen mechatronics capability across the factory.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor or Master’s degree in:
Mechatronics
Mechanical Engineering
Precision Engineering
Electrical / Control / Automation Engineering
Or related technical fields.
Technical Background (3–5 years in one or more)
Experience in motion control systems, servo dynamics, stage/handler mechanics, or precision automation equipment.
Hands-on experience with:
motion tuning (PID/feedforward/filtering)
PVA analysis and motion diagnostics
encoder/sensor integration
calibration/mapping techniques
vibration or dynamic behavior troubleshooting
Experience with multi-axis mechatronics systems or high‑precision machinery.
Core Skills
Strong understanding of servo control, mechanical dynamics, and system behavior.
Ability to interpret Bode/FFT/PSD results and relate findings to structural or control interactions.
Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings and basic electrical/control schematics.
Strong analytical reasoning; ability to design experiments and validate root causes with data.
Effective communication skills for cross-domain troubleshooting and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with semiconductor equipment, precision motion systems, metrology platforms, robotics, or automated machinery.
Familiarity with real-time control systems (such as PLC-based control, embedded motion controllers, or EtherCAT environments).
Knowledge of calibration, error‑table analysis, compensation algorithms, or precision alignment.
Exposure to RCA methodologies (5 Why, Ishikawa, FMEA), ECN processes, and reliability improvement projects.
Ability to analyze motion/diagnostic data using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
Other Information
This role may require occasional weekend support to meet business and production needs. On average, such support is scheduled approximately once every two months and will involve working on either a Saturday or a Sunday (one day only, not both) at the Linkou Factory. Any weekend support requirements will be planned and communicated by the team in advance. Compensation will be provided in accordance with company policy.
