Introduction
The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) team at ASML in Veldhoven supports the reliable operation of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. As systems become larger and more complex, assessing compliance with low-frequency radiated emission requirements can be challenging in practical measurement environments. During this internship, you will help bridge the gap between regulatory requirements and real-world qualification conditions. Your work will contribute to the development of practical EMC assessment methods for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing systems. This internship offers a unique opportunity to combine scientific research with an industrial engineering challenge.
Your assignment
In this internship, you will investigate how radiated emission limits below 150 kHz can be translated into a practical evaluation method for large semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will combine electromagnetic theory, modeling, simulation, and measurement analysis to develop a technically substantiated assessment approach. Working closely with EMC specialists, you will contribute to improving future compliance assessment strategies.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Review relevant low-frequency electromagnetic compatibility regulations and standards
- Analyze the assumptions behind existing radiated emission limits and prescribed measurement distances
- Investigate near-field and far-field electromagnetic behavior below 150 kHz
- Develop analytical models and simulations to translate regulatory limits to practical measurement distances
- Identify gaps between regulatory requirements and current qualification practices
- Propose and validate a practical radiated emission assessment methodology
- Document findings and present recommendations to technical stakeholders
This is a master's thesis internship for minimum 3-6 months, minimum 4 days per week (minimum 2 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of February or as soon as possible.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
- Are enrolled in a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Electromagnetics, RF Engineering, Applied Electromagnetics, or a related technical field
- Are looking for a master's thesis internship
- Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Are proactive and collaborative when working with technical experts and stakeholders
- Have knowledge of electromagnetic field theory and an interest in electromagnetic compatibility
- Have experience with, or strong interest in, modeling, simulation, and data analysis
- Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing
This internship is based at the ASML campus in Veldhoven. Throughout the project, you will gain experience applying advanced engineering theory to real-world semiconductor manufacturing challenges. You will work alongside experienced specialists and contribute to the development of practical EMC qualification methods. The internship provides an opportunity to create tangible impact while completing your thesis research. If you enjoy combining scientific analysis with practical engineering applications, this internship could be an excellent next step in your academic journey.
Other requirements you need to meet:
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship, and you are at least 18 years old at the start of the internship;
- If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement);
- You attach your cover letter with a clear motivation on why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
- You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your application shows the willingness to relocate.
