Computer Science | Information Technology internship: VDI efficiency optimization

Introduction 

The BL Apps VDI team delivers and operates Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solutions that enable secure access to business-critical applications across ASML. This team supports a large and diverse global user base at enterprise scale. In this internship, you will help improve how VDI resources are used and experienced by employees. Your work directly contributes to efficiency, cost optimization, and sustainability within IT. This internship offers the opportunity to make real impact. 

Your assignment 

In this internship, you will analyze the current VDI environment with a focus on resource usage, platform efficiency, and user experience. You will translate data into insights and identify opportunities for improvement. You will also contribute to automation and lifecycle management enhancements within the platform. Your key responsibilities will be: 

  • Analyze VDI usage and infrastructure consumption using available monitoring data 

  • Evaluate platform performance and identify inefficiencies in resource allocation 

  • Propose improvements such as right-sizing and optimizing user resource profiles 

  • Identify unused or underutilized virtual desktops and recommend actions 

  • Explore data-driven or AI-supported approaches to improve insights 

  • Support improvements in automation for VDI lifecycle processes 

  • Contribute to dashboards and reporting that improve decision-making 


This is a bachelor/master thesis internship for minimum 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026. 

Your profile 

To be suitable for the internship, you: 

  • Are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or data science 

  • Have an interest in IT infrastructure, virtualization, or platform services 

  • Understand basic system resources such as CPU, memory, and storage 

  • Have an analytical mindset and enjoy working with data and monitoring insights 

  • Are proactive and able to translate findings into practical recommendations 


This internship is ideal if you want to gain hands-on experience in enterprise IT. You will work in a collaborative team and contribute directly to improving efficiency and sustainability. 


Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
