Introduction to the job

As a Lithography Production Engineer, you will directly support ASML’s mission to enable the world’s most advanced chip manufacturing. You will help sustain, stabilize, and continuously improve contact lithography and wet etch processes used to manufacture precision glass components.

In this role, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative manufacturing environment, partnering with production teams, development groups, and cross‑functional engineering organizations to create safe, stable, and highly reliable processes that meet demanding quality and performance requirements.

The Lithography Production Engineer (PE) supports and drives assigned manufacturing processes, contributing to their stability, capability, and continuous improvement while partnering closely with process owners and senior engineers. The PE develops and applies technical depth in lithography processes, translating design intent and production requirements into well-controlled, repeatable operations.

The PE works closely with production and collaborates with equipment engineering, safety, quality, and new product development organizations to identify process risks, reduce variation, improve yield, and resolve technical issues. This role builds a strong foundation in understanding and controlling critical process variables, applying data-driven problem solving, and implementing sustainable improvements.

During second-shift operations, the PE serves as a primary engineering resource for lithography and wet etch manufacturing activities. The engineer responds to process abnormalities, supports containment actions, troubleshoots technical issues, and ensures effective communication and continuity between shifts. The role requires sound technical judgment, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently within established process controls and escalation guidelines.

Typical second-shift hours are approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Start and end times may vary, and occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on production needs.

This is a highly hands-on role that requires regular, direct engagement with production equipment and a strong presence in cleanroom and manufacturing environments. The PE supports process documentation, equipment qualifications, process changes, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, from introduction and ramp-up to sustained production.

This role is well suited for engineers with demonstrated manufacturing experience who are seeking to deepen their technical expertise, drive measurable process improvements, and become a trusted engineering resource in a high-performance production environment.

Role and responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary engineering resource for second-shift lithography and wet etch operations, providing visible, hands-on support to production.
  • Lead second-shift engineering execution by advancing experiments, qualifications, process changes, production trials, training and other manufacturing priorities in coordination with process owners.
  • Assess production issues and make timely technical decisions within established process controls and escalation guidelines.
  • Implement containment actions and escalate issues that require process-owner review or approval.
  • Document technical issues, decisions, actions taken, risks, and follow-up needs to ensure an effective handoff to first shift.
  • Monitor process performance and product quality, identifying trends, abnormalities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to support root-cause investigations, validate corrective actions, and contribute to sustainable process improvements.
  • Partner with production, equipment engineering, quality, safety, and development teams to support operational and improvement objectives.
  • Support process documentation, work instructions, control plans, training materials, equipment qualifications, process validations, and the introduction of new manufacturing capabilities.
  • Promote compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and operational requirements while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with contact lithography, mask-less lithography, thick-photoresist processing, MEMS fabrication, micro-optics fabrication, or related pattern-transfer technologies in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting wet chemical etch processes in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of defect reduction, process variation, and contamination-controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to exercise sound technical judgment, assess production risks, and make timely decisions within established process controls and escalation guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across engineering, operations, and all levels of management to drive alignment and execution.
  • Ability to independently analyze data, identify trends, and apply structured problem‑solving methods to define root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving skills, with curiosity, attention to detail, and a systematic, data‑driven approach.
  • Ability to work proactively, adapt quickly, and contribute effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to organize work logically, manage multiple priorities, and drive issues to closure with appropriate escalation as needed.
  • Experience operating in controlled manufacturing or laboratory environments, with disciplined adherence to procedures and standards.
  • High comfort level working directly with hardware and spending significant time in cleanroom and manufacturing environments.
  • Mindset oriented toward identifying and reducing risk, improving process robustness, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and contribute positively to a collaborative, team‑based engineering culture.

Other information

  • Familiarity with common manufacturing and problem‑solving tools (e.g., DMAIC, A3, 8D, FMEA, DOE).
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
