Founding Hardware Engineer (Full-Time)
Job Description
Aseon Labs builds robotic pitstops for self-driving cars. A depot in a box for charging, cleaning & inspecting autonomous fleets directly in operating zones.
Autonomous driving is working. The operational layer around it is not. Today, fleets lose significant time and money traveling to centralized depots for charging, cleaning and servicing, creating dead miles, lower uptime and operational bottlenecks that limit fleet scale.
Aseon Pods are modular, rapidly deployable robotic pitstops that keep autonomous fleets operating near demand. By bringing charging, cleaning and inspection directly into operating zones, we help fleet operators increase uptime, reduce operational overhead and scale markets more efficiently without relying on large centralized depots.
We’re second-time founders and mobility infrastructure operators. Previously, we built and scaled Pushme to 5,000 stations across 40 cities before its acquisition by TIER–Dott ($600M raised). Aseon Labs is backed by Y Combinator and headquartered in Redwood City.
We’re looking for a Founding Hardware Engineer to help architect and build the physical infrastructure layer behind autonomous mobility.
This is a deeply hands-on role. You’ll work on systems that need to operate reliably outdoors, interface with world-class autonomy hardware, deploy globally, and function continuously with minimal human intervention.
What you’ll do
- Own the architecture and development of major hardware systems across the platform
- Design and develop mechanical, electromechanical and infrastructure assemblies for autonomous vehicle servicing
- Lead hardware systems from concept architecture through prototyping, EVT, DVT, validation and scaled manufacturing
- Drive key engineering and architecture tradeoffs across reliability, manufacturability, deployment and scale
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners on sourcing, fabrication, NPI and production readiness
- Develop systems designed to operate continuously in demanding real-world urban environments
- Work closely with robotics and software engineers to develop tightly integrated systems
- Contribute across prototyping, integration, testing and field deployment from the earliest stage of the company
Who you are
- Exceptional engineer with strong fundamentals in hardware, mechanical, electromechanical or systems engineering
- Hands-on builder who enjoys developing real-world physical systems from first principles
- Comfortable operating across hardware, software and systems integration boundaries
- Interested in robotics, infrastructure, industrial systems and autonomy
- Able to move quickly with incomplete information and tight feedback loops
- Comfortable with ambiguity, ownership and high-responsibility environments
- Practical, highly execution-oriented and motivated by difficult engineering problems
- Low ego, collaborative and driven by building great products with a small team
Role details

- $140-220k base + 0.25-1.5% equity depending on experience
- HQ in Redwood City, Bay Area
- In-person, hands-on engineering role
Why this role
- Own the hardware architecture from the earliest stage of the company
- Build systems that will be manufactured at scale in the United States
- Help define how autonomous fleets physically operate and scale over the next decade
- Join a small, highly technical team building infrastructure for one of the largest shifts in transportation
Interview Process
- Founder screening
- Technical deep dive on systems you’ve built
- Practical working session
- Final conversation with founders
Decision in 1-2 weeks.
