Brief Overview 

The Digital Health Scientist is responsible for generating and communicating evidence that demonstrates the clinical, economic, value-based, and business impact of Amwell’s digital health and telemedicine solutions. This role leads and supports research initiatives, analyzes complex healthcare data, collaborates with customers and cross-functional teams, and contributes to scientific publications and thought leadership efforts. The Digital Health Scientist plays a critical role in advancing evidence-based virtual care and helping shape the future of digital healthcare delivery.


Core Responsibilities 

  • Lead and support research projects focused on clinical, economic, value-based, and business outcomes across Amwell’s digital health and telemedicine solutions.
  • Design research methodologies, develop study protocols, and manage project-related research activities.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, including surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and large healthcare datasets.
  • Interpret complex findings and translate research outcomes into actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise and provide project-level guidance to junior research team members.
  • Collaborate with research leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of research projects and initiatives.
  • Partner with product, engineering, design, sales, marketing, and business intelligence teams to define, measure, and report solution-level and enterprise-level outcomes.
  • Support customers in implementing research studies and establishing success metrics for digital health programs.
  • Present research findings, progress updates, and recommendations to customers, leadership teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop customer-facing reports, white papers, infographics, conference presentations, and other evidence-based materials.
  • Prepare, write, submit, and manage peer-reviewed scientific publications, including responding to reviewer feedback and manuscript revisions.
  • Contribute to Amwell’s thought leadership and innovation efforts within digital health, telemedicine, and virtual care.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD (or equivalent research experience) in any specialist area of medicine, health economics, statistics & data analytics or related subjects.
  • Strong understanding of digital health technologies and their role in delivering technology-enabled healthcare services.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and evaluating quantitative and qualitative research studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex healthcare data and research findings.
  • Experience working with large datasets and generating evidence-based insights.
  • Proven record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across technical, clinical, and business functions.
  • Passion for advancing digital healthcare and improving patient outcomes through evidence-based innovation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting research within the digital health, telemedicine, healthcare technology, or virtual care industry.
  • Experience evaluating digital health interventions within academic, clinical, or healthcare settings.
  • Demonstrated history of research impact through publications, presentations, or customer-facing evidence generation.
  • Experience applying Implementation Science methodologies, including:
  • Normalization Process Theory (NPT)
  • Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR)
  • Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS)
  • Similar implementation and evaluation frameworks.

Salaried Roles

The typical base salary range for this position is €45700 - €58.000 Annually.  The actual salary offer will ultimately depend on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, relevant education, experience, complexity or specialization of talent, and other objective factors.  In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an annual bonus based on a combination of company performance and employee performance. Long-term incentive and short-term variable compensation may be offered as part of the compensation package dependent on the role. Some roles may be commission based, in which case the total compensation will be based on a commission and the above range may not be an accurate representation of total compensation.
