Supply Chain Buyer

Amca
El Segundo, CA
Full Time
Compensation
$80,000–$120,000/year

Job Description

Amca is building America’s new industrial base. Since the 1990s, our ability to build new aviation and military systems and maintain the ones we already have has eroded. Today, the gap between what the nation needs to produce and what it is capable of producing is the largest it has been in generations.

To help close that gap, Amca rapidly develops and manufactures new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. Today, we operate seven factories nationwide, including our advanced prototyping and testing headquarters in El Segundo, and deliver avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms such as the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.

Overview:
Supply Chain Buyers own end-to-end procurement for Amca's manufacturing operations. We will hand you a set of parts, you'll be held accountable for whether they show up on time at the right price, and we'll give you the autonomy to make that happen. You'll source and fulfill the parts and materials that go into our builds, track hardware from quote through delivery, and keep the manufacturing floor stocked to support build rate. You'll also own the supply chain health of your assigned commodities and build out the supply base by vetting new suppliers in that commodity and partnering with only the best.

Responsibilities:

Procurement
  • Own the full procurement cycle: source, quote, negotiate, and issue POs for machined parts, hardware, raw materials, special processes, and consumables
  • Manage open orders end to end: track deliveries, update lead times, and expedite anything putting the build schedule at risk
  • Resolve PO discrepancies across receiving, suppliers, and engineering — own each issue through to closure
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data: open POs, lead times, pricing, vendor records, and part statuses
  • Maintain visibility into build status and material readiness, and flag shortages early enough to act on
  • Identify cost and lead time improvement opportunities across the supply base
Supplier Development
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers across machining, injection molding, PCBAs, electronics, soft goods, testing, assembly, and other processes as needed
  • Vet suppliers on capability, quality systems, capacity, and certifications
  • Visit shops to assess them first-hand and build the relationships that get Amca's needs prioritized when it matters
  • Run quarterly business reviews and grow a vendor base that can scale with our manufacturing operations
Expectations:
In your first year, you own your scope outright: on-time delivery to promise, zero line-down shortages you didn't flag in advance, measurable cost and lead time reduction across your supply base, and at least five newly qualified suppliers across your commodities.

Qualifications:
  • 1–5 years (including internships) in purchasing, procurement, materials planning, or supply chain analysis in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ownership of PO management and open order tracking in an ERP or MRP system
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to manage a large and constantly shifting queue of open orders and build priorities
  • Direct, proactive communicator with suppliers, engineers, and the production floor
  • Thrives in a fast, ambiguous environment where the plan changes
  • Able to travel 25%, with heavier stretches during supplier qualification campaigns
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comfortable working from BOMs and engineering drawings to translate requirements into procurement actions
  • Aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing background
  • Familiarity with supplier qualification processes and quality documentation (C of C, material certs, AS9100)
  • Experience sourcing across a broad range of commodities — machining, PCBAs, electronics, testing, coatings, NDT
