The EHS Specialist role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving culture development and training programs across all EHS disciplines, including occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, process safety, and emergency response.
The position reports to the Safety and Compliance Manager and will be located onsite in Penrose, CO and eventually transitioning to Pueblo, CO.
In this role, the essential functions are:
- EHS Program Management, including audit and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance programs, policies and procedures.
- Regulatory Compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, ATF explosives, DOT and PHMSA, DoD Contractor Safety Manual 4145.26, DODM 5100.76 (AA&E), environmental regulations and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.
- Risk & Hazard identification and assessments, including new processes equipment and materials and incident investigations with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Environmental & Industrial Hygiene support of environmental compliance programs, exposure strategy, and chemical hazard evaluations and SDS management.
- Maintain Emergency Response / HazMat readiness and programs, coordinate with external agencies and actively participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS with 2 years of experience OR Master’s degree in EHS with 1 year of experience OR High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5 or more years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health & Safety roles.
- Demonstrated experience across multiple EHS disciplines (Safety, environmental, IH, compliance) Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HazMat, ATF explosives, and environmental regulations
- Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
- Ability to influence safety performance through formal and informal leadership
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Experience in chemical, space or defense manufacturing
- Relevant certifications in EHS disciples to include HazMat / Emergency Response training or certification
Government Mandated Requirements:
- Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain applicable state and federal explosives licenses, including minimum age requirements (21 and over), a drug-free workplace in compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (41 U.S.C. §§ 8101–8106), Executive Order 12564 (Drug-Free Federal Workplace), applicable Department of Defense directives including DoD Instruction 1010.09 and DFARS 252.226-7003 and successful completion of any legally required background investigations.
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
The good faith base salary range for this role is $70,000-$100,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
