You will work across the full hardware development lifecycle — from concept and CAD design through analysis, fabrication support, integration, and test — and develop your skills in a fast-paced environment where your work directly impacts spaceflight hardware.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for spacecraft actuation systems using CAD tools
- Perform mechanical analysis including stress, fatigue, tolerance stack-up, and kinematic analysis to validate designs
- Support the selection and integration of motors, bearings, gears, and other drivetrain components into mechanism assemblies
- Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and fabrication documentation to support manufacturing and procurement
- Support mechanism assembly, integration, and test activities including functional testing, environmental test campaigns, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with motor control, avionics, and systems engineering teams to ensure mechanism designs meet system-level interface and performance requirements
- Assist with trade studies and design reviews, contributing analysis and design documentation
- Develop and maintain design documentation including specifications, test plans, and analysis reports
- Support continuous improvement of mechanisms engineering processes and practices
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 2-4 years of professional experience in mechanical design and development
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience generating engineering drawings and fabrication documentation
- Familiarity with mechanical analysis methods including stress, tolerance stack-up, and kinematic analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with hardware through build, integration, and test activities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience with precision mechanisms, actuators, or motor-driven assemblies
- Familiarity with spacecraft environmental requirements including thermal, vacuum, vibration, and radiation
- Knowledge of materials selection and surface treatment for space applications
- Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, or similar)
- Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis methods
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary: $90,000 - $135,000
- Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave
