Job Summary

OpenGov is on a mission to power more effective and accountable government — and the Sales Development team is at the forefront of that mission, connecting government leaders across the country with solutions that transform how they serve their communities. As a Sales Development Intern, you'll spend 10 weeks embedded in a high-performance sales environment, working alongside SDRs and Account Executives to build pipeline, sharpen your sales craft, and see firsthand what it takes to close deals in the government technology space. This isn't a task-list internship — you'll do real work, develop real skills, and leave with a foundation that sets you apart in your sales career.

The 10-week internship will run from June 7, 2027 through August 13, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow and support Sales Development Representatives in daily prospecting activities, including outbound calls, emails, and social outreach to government leaders across assigned territories

  • Research target accounts and build prospect lists using Salesforce, LinkedIn, and Outreach to identify high-potential opportunities for the SDR team

  • Support the SDR Manager in day-to-day execution, tracking outreach patterns and flagging emerging trends across the assigned territory

  • Participate in live sales calls, product demonstrations, and deal reviews to build product knowledge and develop an understanding of the full sales cycle

  • Assist with lead qualification and CRM hygiene in Salesforce, ensuring prospect records are accurate and up to date

  • Contribute to outbound prospecting campaigns by drafting and refining outreach messaging under SDR guidance

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to support lead generation initiatives and event follow-up efforts

  • Complete a capstone project — a territory or market analysis — and present findings to the Sales Development leadership team at the close of the internship

Requirements and Preferred Experience

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Professional Sales, Communications, Marketing, or a related field, with an expected graduation of December 2027 or later

  • Availability for a 10-week internship beginning June 7, 2027

  • Ability to be in-office five days a week

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills — clear, confident, and direct

  • Self-motivated, curious, and genuinely coachable in a fast-paced environment

  • Passion for technology and its potential to improve how governments serve their communities

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior internship, campus job, or leadership experience in a customer-facing, sales, or business development role

  • Familiarity with Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Outreach, or similar sales tools

  • Coursework or extracurricular involvement in sales, negotiation, marketing, or business development (e.g., sales competitions, business clubs)

  • Interest in or knowledge of the public sector, local government, or civic technology

Compensation

Boston, MA: $20 per hour

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.

The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
