About the Role:  

As a Flight Operations Intern, you will support the planning, approval, and execution of ground and flight test activities for advanced aircraft. You will work alongside flight test engineers, pilots, and airworthiness teams to help prepare aircraft and test operations for safe, compliant, and efficient execution.

This role is best suited for an intern who already has meaningful hands-on aviation or operator experience and is interested in the intersection of flight test, flight operations, and airworthiness.

 
Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)
Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)
Fall: Around 16 weeks (September - December)

Responsibilities:

  • Support flight and mission planning, test card development, briefings, debriefs, and test execution
  • Assist Test Conductors/Test Directors and pilots during ground and flight test operations
  • Support airworthiness, airspace, and flight approval activities for military and civil operations
  • Help coordinate aircraft configuration, test requirements, and operational readiness across engineering and flight teams
  • Support development of documentation needed for future operations in the National Airspace System
  • Assist with test results, operational observations, and post-test reporting
  • Requirements:

  • Pursuing a STEM degree, preferably in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or a related field
  • Prior hands-on aviation or operator experience such as UAS/drone operations, pilot training/license, flight test, or similar experience
  • Understanding of aircraft systems, flight operations, or flight test fundamentals
  • Familiarity with FAA and/or military aviation regulations and airspace requirements
  • Strong technical judgment, communication, organization, and commitment to safety
  • Interested in flight testing, flight operations, and airworthiness
  • Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience supporting flight test planning or execution
  • Exposure to Test Conductor/Test Director responsibilities
  • Experience with large UAS or fixed-wing aircraft
  • Familiarity with airworthiness or flight approval processes
  • Statistics, data analysis, Python, or MATLAB experience

    The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
