Electrical Engineer - Displays & Camera Sensors

Deepnight
San Diego, CA
Full Time
Compensation
$120,000–$180,000/year

Job Description

Deepnight is seeking an electrical engineer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in display and camera sensor integration, with expertise in MIPI connections, board design, and layout. This role requires a hands-on approach to hardware development, including low-level firmware implementation and embedded debugging using various test equipment.

About us: Deepnight builds AI-powered vision systems that enable humans and machines to see in near-total darkness. We have developed a neural network that achieves performance on par with traditional military night vision, but embedded directly into commodity CMOS cameras. We are now vertically integrating - designing and manufacturing complete hardware products around our AI model to push the limits of low-light imaging. Our work spans AI research, optics, sensors, and embedded systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test electrical systems for displays and camera sensors.
  • Work extensively with MIPI interfaces for high-speed data transfer.
  • Lead board design and layout activities, ensuring signal integrity and power efficiency.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to implement low-level firmware for display and camera sensor control.
  • Perform embedded debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment to diagnose and resolve hardware issues.
  • Document design specifications, test plans, and validation reports.
  • Work effectively within a cross-functional team, communicating technical information clearly and concisely.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on display and camera sensor integration.
  • Proven experience with MIPI D-PHY/C-PHY connections.
  • Strong proficiency in PCB design tools.
  • Experience with board layout and routing for complex digital and analog circuits.
  • Proficient in embedded debugging techniques and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes for signal integrity analysis and debugging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with image processing pipelines.
  • Knowledge of various display technologies (e.g., LCD, OLED).
  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces beyond I2C or I3C.
