The joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) is running a sweeping campaign across every space sector, and the listings signal a clear preference for domain-specific expertise, forcing applicants to parse a strict selection screen. The headline figure of 2,064 open roles did not surface in the data we reviewed; the verified count is the 68 postings above. The surge follows concrete program wins: a geostationary telecom satellite for Es’hailSat and a role in lunar navigation via the Moonlight program. Those contracts explain why the board skews toward engineers who know satellite payloads.

The map shows where the jobs sit. LinkedIn listings place roles in Toulouse and Cannes in France, Tres Cantos in Spain, and Roma, Texas. The company’s European footprint means many roles are listed in France, Italy, and Spain, but the American remote belt is real, padded with sales and engineering titles.

The median pay across the board's listings is $117,000, with extremes from $21,000 to $375,000. Sales and principal engineer titles take the top; technician and apprentice roles pull the bottom.

Job titles pulled from LinkedIn and the board expose where the money and headcount go. They include Artificial Intelligence Space Engineer, Senior AI/ML & Edge Computing Engineer, Navigation Payload AIV Engineer, Cyber Manager, Architecte Accès pour constellation (Iris² project), CAM/EDM Payload Programme Telecom, and IVVQM Payload Projet RIS². Those names map to the company’s stated segments: telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, defense, exploration, science, orbital infrastructures. Navigation payload jobs tie to Galileo and Moonlight. AI/ML and edge computing posts show the manufacturer pulling software talent into flight hardware.

Thales Alenia Space calls itself a major builder of telecom satellite constellations and a contributor to New Space programs for high-revisit Earth observation and on-orbit servicing. The open roles mirror that pitch. A materials R&D apprentice posting and an AIT technician slot suggest assembly and sustainment hiring, not just design. Defense appears as a vertical in the company’s own wording, though few public job titles spell it out directly.

The surge broadens but skews to engineers who know satellite payloads. A candidate scanning the board sees telecom payload, navigation, cyber, and AI roles clustered by program name. That clustering forms the screen’s first filter.

What the Screen Keeps Out

The screen cuts half to four in five candidates at the online aptitude stage of the Thales hiring process, Graduates First reported in a November 2025 analysis of Thales group tests. Thales Alenia Space pushes applicants through that same filter. The screen starts before a human reads a line of your CV.

Next comes the online assessment. Practice4Me reports Thales uses Saville Consulting aptitude tests. The tests narrow the field sharply. Numerical reasoning drills percentages, ratios, fractions. A study cited by Graduates First found that skipping practice fails more than half to five in six candidates at this first hurdle. Brush up on arithmetic and run mock tests; practice raises your pass rate.

For defense and aerospace work, a hard gate appears: security clearances. Apply.internset states many roles in cybersecurity, systems engineering, or space require clearances or at least eligibility. Thales Alenia Space builds satellites, navigation systems, and orbital infrastructure under defense contracts. No clearance path, no offer.

Recruiters Speak, Candidates Adapt

The recent flood of board postings put the top role—Major Account Manager—paying up to $375,000 across nine remote states. Behind that wave, recruiters run a behavioral screen that watches for hires who might quit early or underperform. One local Glassdoor site shows 40 reviews, two others tally similar counts, and the Ingeniero track adds 17.

Meline Man, a recruiter who said she has sat in thousands of interview debriefs, laid out the mindset in a Self Made Millennial interview. Employers pay executive recruiters tens of thousands to place a hire, and they fear a short stint, a candidate who leaves fast or gets fired for performance. “They are trying to predict your future behavior by looking at your past,” Man said. That predictive lens maps directly onto the TAS screen, where a candidate’s exit history gets scrutinized.

Recruiters at the venture are not hunting perfect records. Man said the interviewer “is not looking for perfection here everyone fails everyone makes mistakes instead what they are looking for is how do you react when those things happen are you a good problem solver are you a good learner.” A candidate who paints too rosy a picture triggers doubt about authenticity. On the greatest-accomplishment question, she was blunt: fail it and you fail the whole interview. The company’s near four-out-of-five employee rating from 43 Glassdoor reviews suggests those who pass the screen find a decent home, but the bar is behavioral before technical.

Job seekers adapting to this wave rewrite how they answer. Man’s countermoves tell candidates to keep “why did you leave” answers to one to three sentences, stay positive, and own the narrative with confidence. For the accomplishment question, pick a relevant win with hard results, not a favorite hobby project. For failure, choose a real mistake and show the fix. Interviewers respect a candidate who asks researched questions tied to the conversation, Man said.

The open roles themselves push candidates to map skills to space-defense verticals. Software engineers targeting the Austin posting now lead with space-system deployment stories rather than generic app backends. Thales’s career page states it “strive[s] to create the conditions that enable your growth, to facilitate your work-life balance and daily work, and to broaden your prospects”. Candidates echo that language in final questions about team development.

The Ingeniero subset (about twenty interview questions and those 17 reviews) shows technical applicants get the same behavioral grilling in Spanish-language tracks. Applicants with prior short stints under two years should expect recruiters to probe leave reasons with the short-answer script. Man warned that if candidates do not master these questions “you are like to lose out on the job offer.”

The wave rewards preparation, not volume. For the Bid Manager Americas role, a failure story about a lost contract and a re-engineered capture plan beats a polished generic application. That’s the screen TAS recruiters actually run.

Who the Push Targets

Thales Alenia Space runs a hiring push that sorts candidates into clear buckets across its space verticals. The open roles pull hardest from three pools — hardware engineers, software engineers, and defense program specialists — within the segments mapped earlier. This targeting exposes a tension with the company’s recent past. In March 2024, SpaceIntelReport documented a cut of about 1,300 posts in Thales’ space division (roughly 15%) after a zero-profit year and delays on its SpaceInspire software-defined satellite platform. The current wave does not erase that cut; it redirects headcount toward verticals that still have funding.

Commercial geostationary-satellite orders fell across the industry, pushing TAS to shrink that unit in 2024. The hiring now backs navigation, Earth observation, and defense, where European institutions still spend. So the engineer who built GEO comm payloads five years ago is not the engineer the screen seeks today. Instead, it wants people who shipped Galileo components or wrote orbital infrastructure software.

If you are a circuit or structures engineer with satellite experience, the screen favors you.

Software talent gets a direct call. The Senior Software Engineer posting in Austin pays six figures mid-range. The company’s struggle with SpaceInspire, its showcase software-defined satellite product, left a gap that code workers can fill. TAS also delivers ground mission segments for navigation, which need reliable software builds. European space hiring demand curves upward as public investment rises, the ESPI 2025 executive summary noted, and that pressure hits software recruitment first.

Defense specialists form the third constituency. Thales Alenia Space supplies half of the new Galileo Second Generation satellites and the associated Ground Mission Segment, per its company site in June 2026. It is also a key contributor to Kinéis, Europe’s first IoT-dedicated constellation. These programs sit inside the defense and secure-connectivity verticals. Candidates who hold security clearances or have worked on Galileo firmware step to the front. The company’s inclusion statements about gender balance and diverse backgrounds do not lower the domain bar.

Early-career channels exist. The TAS Young Talent Programme and Thales internships feed junior applicants. But the surge targets mid-level and senior people who can map skills to a specific space-defense product line. Generalist aerospace resumes without that mapping stall.
