Pump.co Expands into AI Cost Management and Builds Out San Francisco Team

By Zero G Talent•

Pump.co is moving beyond traditional cloud discounts into tracking and reducing artificial intelligence compute expenses. In June 2026, the company announced an expansion into AI cost optimization, targeting inference costs, token consumption, and multi-cloud infrastructure across providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS Bedrock, according to PR Newswire.

The platform supports companies representing more than $600 million in annual cloud spend across thousands of customers in 22 countries. Pump reports an average monthly savings of approximately 19%, with some customers saving up to 60%. Customer Butlr Technologies reduced its monthly AWS bill by more than $100,000 using the service.

The company operates on a zero-fee model for end users: it charges no platform fees, takes no percentage of savings, and requires no contracts or minimum commitments. Instead, cloud providers compensate Pump directly for managing customer utilization.

Group Buying and Uncapped Commitment Insurance

Founded in 2022, Pump pools commitments across companies to secure volume pricing on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure without requiring long-term contracts from startups. The software automatically reallocates unused capacity and provisions savings.

Pump operates strictly at the billing layer with read-only permissions, avoiding access to customer code, infrastructure, network traffic, or user data. Onboarding takes under five minutes, and customers do not need to transfer their AWS management accounts or join Pump's AWS organization.

The product suite centers on three components:

  • Pump Save: Automates cloud commitment purchasing backed by uncapped commitment insurance. If customer usage drops and a Reserved Instance or Savings Plan goes unused, Pump covers the remaining cost out of pocket.
  • Pump View: Consolidates spend metrics across AWS, GCP, Azure, and more than 20 integrations, including Datadog, Cursor, ClickHouse, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
  • Pump Secure: Monitors infrastructure against more than 30 compliance frameworks, including SOC 2, HIPAA, and NIST.

As companies integrate foundation models, model inference and token usage have grown into substantial line items. Nakka noted that "AI costs are becoming the next cloud bill," with Pump targeting 20% to 40% savings on AI spending through tools such as AWS Bedrock routing and token-level spend tracking. Technical hires such as a DevOps Engineer and a Solutions Architect support these multi-cloud routing and optimization pipelines.

Founder Background and Scale

Pump was co-founded by CEO Spandana Nakka and Aadi Shidham. Nakka previously co-founded Sleek, a fintech startup acquired by Snackpass in 2021. Prior to Sleek, she worked as a product manager at Google from 2014 to 2019. Nakka holds a master's degree in engineering management from Stanford University and studied at Caltech.

Pump participated in Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch. Its investor base includes Y Combinator, Pioneer Fund, Zeno Partners, and focal, reaching a Series B+ stage.

The company submitted annual revenue figures of $15.2 million for April 2025, up from an estimated $1.4 million in June 2024, according to GetLatka. Headcount expanded concurrently, rising from nine employees in mid-2024 to 76 by late 2025.

To support this growth, Pump leased 26,000 square feet at 1455 Market Street in San Francisco—the former headquarters of Uber—tripling its real estate footprint, according to The Business Journals.

Go-to-Market Expansion and Onsite Culture

Pump currently lists 21 open positions. The hiring mix reflects a commercial scaling phase paired with infrastructure support.

Of the 21 openings, 20 are strictly onsite at the company's San Francisco headquarters, matching leadership's emphasis on in-person collaboration. Only one role, an entry-level Backend Engineer, offers a hybrid option split between San Francisco and remote US work.

More than half of the openings are clustered across sales, marketing, and revenue operations. Leadership roles include a VP of Revenue and a Head of Marketing, supported by direct-revenue positions like an Account Executive offering $250,000 to $400,000 per year. The company is also building outbound and inbound channels via roles for paid demand generation, content creation, search optimization, and partnerships.

Engineering and product hires remain focused on systems management and design, with searches underway for an Engineering Manager, technical product managers, and product designers to handle the influx of integrated data streams.
