Metriport Secures $26M and Candidate QHIN Status to Expand Open-Source Healthcare Data Platform

By Zero G Talent•

Metriport raised a $26 million Series A round led by Matrix general partner TJ Parker, with participation from ARTIS Ventures and Y Combinator. The funding round brings the San Francisco startup's total capital raised to $28.4 million, building on an initial $2.4 million seed round raised after its Y Combinator S22 batch.

Weeks after closing the capital, PR Newswire reported that the company was accepted as a Candidate Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) by The Sequoia Project under the federal Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA).

The platform is designed to resolve clinical data fragmentation across US medical networks. Rather than waiting weeks for records sent by fax and paper mail, healthcare organizations use Metriport to query patient medical histories across exchanges through an open-source engine.

Unified Clinical Records at the Point of Care

Healthcare organizations traditionally pull records in incompatible formats from scattered facilities, outpatient clinics, and pharmacies. The resulting gaps often cause duplicate diagnostic tests, delayed treatments, and clinical decisions made on partial patient recall.

Metriport connects directly to national exchange networks—including CommonWell and Carequality—and standardizes, deduplicates, and enriches patient files into a single schema. Providers query the aggregated data through a single API, cloud data warehouse connections, or applications embedded inside electronic health record (EHR) systems.

As reported by citybiz, the platform handles 4.2 billion network requests per month and delivers the first structured record in under 15 seconds. Customers include Amazon One Medical, Sollis Health, Color Health, Circle Medical, Delfina, and Kivo Health. At concierge emergency provider Sollis Health, physicians used Metriport during an acute abdominal pain case to locate prior endoscopy records instantly, pinpointing an early ulcer and initiating treatment without ordering a second CT scan.

Founded by Systems Engineers

The company was founded in 2021 by Dima Goncharov and Colin Elsinga, who have worked together for more than 15 years. Goncharov, who serves as CEO, holds a diploma of technology in computer systems technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and previously worked as an AWS engineer building cloud database services and aerospace systems. Elsinga, the COO, is a software engineer and designer with an operating background in health software.

The founders initially built a consumer quantified-self tracker before being accepted into Y Combinator in 2022. During the accelerator, they pivoted to B2B data infrastructure after encountering the technical friction of integrating external health records.

Speaking with Pulse 2.0, Elsinga noted that open-source code protects healthcare organizations from vendor lock-in while providing visibility into data transformations. "Relevant, and usable, data from longitudinal patient records is the foundation that all downstream processes and technologies, including AI, are built on. We created Metriport with open source code because the decisions around how patient information is managed and transformed are too important to trust to a black box," Elsinga said.

TEFCA Onboarding and Point-of-Care Intelligence

Metriport's acceptance as a Candidate QHIN marks its entry into the project planning and pre-production testing phase managed by The Sequoia Project. Achieving full QHIN designation will allow the company to participate directly in the nationwide TEFCA network rather than relying entirely on third-party network access.

The company is directing its Series A funding toward machine learning and agentic workflows, such as automated medical chart summarization to present clinicians with relevant history at the bedside. To support enterprise deployments, Metriport maintains HITRUST r2 certification, SOC 2 Type II compliance, and HIPAA compliance, running identity diligence on every organization seeking API credentials.

Expansion Across Engineering and Sales

With 16 employees listed on its team, Metriport is expanding its headcount with 17 open roles. Every listed position is based full-time on-site at the company's San Francisco headquarters.

On the technical side, the company is hiring engineers to scale its unified data model and point-of-care tooling, including a Senior AI/ML Engineer ($200,000 – $260,000), a Staff Software Engineer ($200,000 – $260,000), and a Staff Data Engineer ($200,000 – $260,000).

Commercial and operations roles account for the rest of the expansion. Metriport is recruiting leadership across enterprise go-to-market teams, seeking a Head of Sales ($300,000 – $350,000) and a Head of Customer Success ($190,000 – $250,000) to support health systems and digital health providers using the platform.
