Axle Secures $17.5M Series A to Expand Its AI Insurance Clearinghouse
Axle raised a $17.5 million Series A round in August 2026 to scale its infrastructure for consumer-permissioned insurance data. San Francisco venture firm Base10 Partners led the round, with participation from Y Combinator, Google’s AI fund Gradient Ventures, Stage 2 Capital, Cover Genius co-founder Chris Bayley, and angel investors from Plaid and Cox Automotive.
As reported by AlleyWatch, the financing brings the company's total equity raised to $22 million, following a $4 million seed round and participation in Y Combinator’s S22 batch. According to Hypepotamus, Axle plans to double its 25-person team while building out operations across its offices in New York and Atlanta.
The company positions itself as an AI-native clearinghouse for insurance, often drawing comparisons to Plaid. Axle clears more than $100 billion in coverage annually across more than 4,000 business clients, including Fortune 500 companies such as Rocket Mortgage, Avis, Experian, Sonic Automotive, Hertz, and Audi.
Rebuilding the Ledger for an $8.3 Trillion Market
Insurance underpins trillions of dollars in real economy transactions, from vehicle purchases and equipment leases to residential mortgages. Despite its scale, the industry still depends heavily on paper records, manual phone calls, and PDF documents to verify policy status.
A single major insurance carrier often operates 15 or more separate, disconnected policy platforms, leaving coverage data trapped in unstructured documents intended for brokers rather than software. When businesses need to confirm coverage, verification can drag out over hours or days. A mortgage lender may need to verify insurance on a single loan more than 10 times a year.
Axle replaces these manual handoffs with a universal API layer powered by agentic workflows. As FinTech Global reported, Axle integrates directly into carriers' fragmented backend systems, routes verification queries to the right policy database, and structures the data into machine-readable formats.
According to Pulse 2.0, the platform has accelerated insurance workflows by as much as 20 times and helped clients recover more than $220 million in losses by closing coverage gaps. Axle has also introduced Passport, a consumer-facing tool that lets policyholders save account credentials for instant, repeat insurance verifications across devices.
Under the hood, Axle runs on AWS. The core engineering stack relies on TypeScript applications, microservices, and an event-driven architecture designed to manage high-volume, real-time data pipelines.
The Team Behind the Infrastructure
Axle was founded in 2022 by Cameron Duncan, Nihar Parikh, and Armaan Sikand. The three founders met at Emory University and have worked together across enterprise and automotive software for 15 years.
CEO Cameron Duncan studied entrepreneurship and biology at Emory. Before starting Axle, he led a product team at vehicle subscription platform Clutch, which was acquired by Cox Automotive, where he built platforms that enabled automotive brands such as Porsche to deliver new vehicle access models.
CTO Nihar Parikh holds degrees in computer science and finance from Emory. He previously led product at a seed-stage developer tools startup, launched Emory’s first startup accelerator, and served as a founding venture partner at Contrary Capital.
COO Armaan Sikand completed studies in economics and international relations at Emory and the London School of Economics. Before Axle, the founders worked across roles at advisory and automotive organizations, including Deloitte and KPMG.
In a joint statement on their Series A announcement, the three co-founders highlighted the structural void they set out to resolve: “Everything the economy runs on – credit, payments, identity, income – has a clearinghouse in the middle. Insurance never has. We’re building it. Once insurance is standardized and programmable, it becomes far more valuable to the carriers who write it, the businesses that rely on it, and the hundreds of millions of consumers it protects.”
Expanding Across 50 Market Segments
After establishing its core infrastructure across five initial sectors, Axle is broadening its scope into more than 50 market segments. Target categories include home insurance, auto dealerships, mortgage lending, renters insurance, employee compliance, commercial coverage, and specialty insurance lines.
To support this expansion, Axle is hiring across its engineering, enterprise deployment, and revenue teams. The company currently lists 12 open roles split across New York and Atlanta, along with select hybrid arrangements.
For engineers, Axle requires an in-person schedule four days a week at its Flatiron/NoMad office in New York. Engineering hires will work directly on real-time integrations and data pipeline architecture, including the Staff Engineer position paying between $215,000 and $270,000 per year, and the Senior Product Engineer role offering $160,000 to $215,000. Infrastructure scale and system hardening are led by openings like the Infrastructure & Security Engineer, with a salary band of $180,000 to $250,000.
Enterprise expansion and client integration roles are distributed across New York and Atlanta. Senior commercial openings include the Enterprise Sales Director, Automotive at $260,000 to $320,000, as well as the Lead Deployment Strategist role offering $190,000 to $240,000.
