Lead Technician (Power Generation) - Memphis

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Lead Technician on SpaceXAI's power generation team, you will lead the technician crew for on-site generation that powers high-density AI supercomputing facilities in the Southaven / Memphis area. You will work across plant, process, and electrical systems — gas turbine packages, balance-of-plant, fuel gas and fluid systems, and medium-voltage electrical through 34.5 kV.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform and lead operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair across plant mechanical, process/fluid, and electrical systems, including gas turbines and generators, balance-of-plant equipment, fuel gas, water, compressed/instrument air, HVAC and cooling, and plant electrical systems up to 13.5 kV / 34.5 kV
• Serve as the working technical lead on assigned jobs, shifts, and outages: sequence work, coordinate across disciplines, and keep execution aligned with the supervisor’s priorities and live plant conditions
• Mentor plant, process, and electrical technicians through on-the-job training, technical guidance, and quality checks — without owning hiring, performance reviews, or formal people management
• Execute and support switching, isolation, LOTO, start-up, shutdown, racking of breakers, and restoration so mechanical, process, and electrical work is coordinated and safe
• Troubleshoot complex, cross-discipline plant issues using P&IDs, single-line diagrams, schematics, and test equipment; support root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to improve reliability and reduce unplanned downtime
• Respond to alarms, trips, and equipment failures; take first action and escalate to the supervisor and engineering as required
• Support plant start-ups, shutdowns, commissioning, and outages alongside operators, technicians, engineers, and contractors
• Install, maintain, and restore plant mechanical, process, and electrical equipment as required for operations and maintenance work
• Maintain accurate work orders, as-found/as-left records, and close-out in the CMMS; uphold procedure and documentation standards
• Know and enforce safety requirements including LOTO, NFPA 70E / arc-flash, confined space, hot work, and PPE; stop work when conditions are unsafe
• Coordinate with the supervisor, engineering, operations, and utility personnel on clearances, switching, and work that affects generation

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 5+ years of experience as a plant technician, process technician, electrical technician, industrial mechanic/electrician, or similar role maintaining power generation or high-reliability industrial systems
• Experience providing technical direction, on-the-job training, or crew-lead support to other technicians

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Hands-on experience in more than one of: gas turbine / plant mechanical systems; process or fluid systems (fuel gas, water, compressed air); and medium-voltage electrical operations and maintenance (4.16 kV to 34.5 kV)
• Experience in a power plant, generating station, or other high-reliability industrial facility
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment O&M manuals
• Experience with LOTO, switching procedures, and NFPA 70E / arc-flash safety practices
• Experience troubleshooting motors, VFDs, MCCs, pumps, valves, rotating equipment, and plant auxiliary systems
• Familiarity with electrical and mechanical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, infrared, vibration, and similar)
• Journeyman electrician or millwright license, or equivalent formal trade training
• Experience using a CMMS or work-order system to plan and close maintenance work
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-discipline operations and maintenance team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Willingness to perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and rotating or on-call schedules to support plant operations
• Ability to remain focused in hazardous environments while wearing appropriate PPE
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
• Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
• Must be able to work on-site at the power generation facility, with potential travel to other SpaceXAI sites
• Valid driver’s license
