Job Description

VectorShift is building the institutional memory layer for private markets. We work with private equity firms to turn the data scattered across their spreadsheets, fund admins, and documents into a living system: portfolio monitoring, fund analytics, and AI agents that answer the questions deal teams and CFOs actually ask — should we sell this company, what gets this fund to top quartile, what did we underwrite this deal at? Our design partners include leading mid-market PE firms, and we ship weekly.

The role

You'll be our first marketing hire, working directly with the founders. Your job is to turn what we build into what the market hears, and to make sure every prospect conversation starts with them already understanding why we're different.

This is a positioning-and-content role, not a demand-gen role. There is a category to define and a story to tell.

What you'll own

Positioning and messaging. The words. What VectorShift is, who it's for, and why it wins against the incumbent playbook (beautiful rearview mirrors, armies of data-ops humans, Excel exports). You'll own the message architecture, test it in real sales conversations, and sharpen it every month. When a prospect repeats our language back to us unprompted, you're succeeding.

Product launches. We ship weekly and release major capabilities quarterly. Every launch gets the full treatment: release notes, blog post, website update, demo narrative, customer/prospect email, LinkedIn. Shipping without a story is shipping silently — your job is that this never happens.

The website. Own the story it tells, end to end. You'll likely rebuild it in your first quarter around our core positioning.

Sales enablement. The pitch deck, the one-pager a CFO forwards to their managing partner, competitive battlecards ("when they mention Chronograph, here's the conversation"), pricing pages, security/diligence FAQ. At our size, this material is the sales team.

Proof and content. Design-partner case studies, demo videos, and point-of-view content that makes a $2–10B fund CFO think "these people understand our world" — the DPI drought, the quarterly close, the exit-planning spreadsheet one analyst rebuilds every quarter.

The feedback loop. Sit in sales calls and pilots. Hear the objections, notice which messages land, and bring it back to product as structured input. You're the founders' second set of ears on the market.

What we're looking for

Must have

  • 2–6 years in product marketing, including being PMM #1 or #2 at an early-stage (Series A–C) B2B company — you've built positioning, launches, and enablement from zero, not inherited a machine
  • You've marketed to a financial buyer — CFOs, fund managers, investors, or finance teams — and know how differently they read
  • Exceptional writer. This is the core skill. You'll share samples you wrote alone, and finalists complete a short positioning exercise (our homepage headline + three sub-heads, 48 hours)
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, weekly ship cycles, and founders who change their minds when the evidence changes

Strongly preferred

  • Experience in private markets software, fintech, or financial data
  • A background that touched finance directly
  • You've helped name or define a category, not just launched features into an existing one

Explicitly not required

  • Demand generation, paid acquisition, SEO, events, or brand design experience. Those come later, likely under you.

What success looks like

  • 90 days: website rebuilt around our positioning; core deck and CFO one-pager in use in every founder sales call; first two launches shipped with full treatment
  • 6 months: prospects arrive pre-sold on the category story; competitive win rate vs. incumbent bake-offs measurably improves; our design-partner case study is the most-forwarded document in our pipeline
  • 12 months: VectorShift owns a phrase the market uses without attributing it to us

Details

  • Location: US, remote (ET hours preferred); occasional travel to customers and team offsites
  • Reports to: Founder
