Tax Accountant (CPA, EA, or >3 years of experience)
Job Description
Soraban is building AI tax workflow automation software for modern accounting firms. Our platform helps accounting firms automate client intake, document processing, tax preparation workflows, and service delivery.
We are looking for tax accountants who:
- are tired of going through tax seasons every year trying to maximize billing hours.
- are excited to redefine the modern tax engagement.
- enjoy explaining how work actually gets done inside a firm, and want to help other firms get there faster.
This is a Solutions Engineer role that sits between our Sales and Product team, built for someone who has lived inside a tax practice rather than someone with a traditional sales background. Our newest product, sit deep in the preparer's workflow. Showing a firm how they fit into its existing tax software, review process, and staffing model takes real preparation experience. You will partner with our account executives on discovery and demo calls, translate a prospect's current workflow into how it would run on Soraban, and carry the technical and tax side of the conversation from first call through pilot and handoff to onboarding.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in tax preparation within mid-market or large tax accounting firms (50+ employees), and a deep understanding of the entire tax filing lifecycle, including:
- Client onboarding and data collection
- Document handling and review
- Tax preparation and review workflows
- Delivery of returns to clients
- Filing with federal and state tax authorities
What You'll Own and Drive
Discovery and Workflow Mapping: Join account executives on prospect calls to understand how the firm intakes clients, moves documents, preps, reviews, delivers, and files today. Identify where Soraban fits, and be honest about where it does not.
Live Product Demos: Run demos of Prepare, Connect, and the rest of the pipeline using realistic returns and scenarios drawn from your own firm experience, not canned scripts. Speak to partners, tax managers, and preparers in their own language.
Technical and Tax Q&A: Own the hard questions on a sales call: how AI prep work gets reviewed, how data flows into the firm's tax software, how edge cases are handled, and what changes for staff during busy season.
Pilot and Trial Design: Scope pilots that mirror the firm's real work, define what success looks like, and support the prospect's team through the evaluation.
Handoff and Feedback Loop: Document the firm's workflow, requirements, and commitments for a clean handoff to onboarding. Bring patterns from the field back to the product team as structured, actionable feedback.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with at least one of these tax software: UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake, CCH Axcess, CCH ProSystem fx, GoSystem Tax RS, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, ProConnect
- Deep familiarity with tax workflow processes used by mid-market or large firms
- Experience across the full tax lifecycle: onboarding, document intake, preparation, review, delivery, and filing
- Experience with 990, 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, or 1120S returns (more the better)
- Comfortable presenting to firm partners and owners, and able to explain a workflow clearly to a skeptical audience
Preferred / Plus
- CPA or EA license
- Experience working for more than one CPA firm
- Experience evaluating, selecting, or rolling out tax, audit, or accounting software inside a firm
- Prior customer-facing experience (solutions engineering, implementation, client advisory, or staff training)
