Estimating Engineer II

The Estimating Engineer II is responsible for independently preparing accurate, detailed cost estimates for wire harness assemblies of increasing complexity in an AS9100 manufacturing environment, with minimal oversight. This role requires interpreting complex or ambiguous technical documentation and applying sound engineering judgment to ensure estimates are accurate and defensible. The Estimating Engineer II collaborates closely with engineering, operations, supply chain, and program management to develop competitive, well-substantiated proposals that align with company goals, and may provide guidance to less experienced estimators. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Review drawings, BOMs, and specifications, including complex or non-standard configurations, to ensure accurate understanding of customer requirements
• Independently develop detailed labor estimates factoring in processes such as crimping, soldering, testing, and inspection that are in alignment with production capabilities
• Independently create and validate BOMs with a high degree of accuracy (95%+)
• Analyze time study and historical cost data to validate estimate assumptions and identify opportunities to improve accuracy
• Identify, quantify, and communicate potential cost, schedule, and manufacturability risks to Program Management
• Lead win/loss analysis and apply findings to continuously improve estimating methodology and accuracy
• Provide guidance and review support to less experienced estimators
• Support pricing strategy and proposal development, including participation in customer or program review discussions as needed
• Identify and help drive process improvements within the estimating function 

Required Qualifications 

Education and Experience 

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3–5+ years of estimating experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably wire harness or cable assembly 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Strong understanding of wire harness/cable assembly manufacturing processes per IPC/WHMA-A-620 
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex, ambiguous, or non-standard estimating requests 
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with sound judgment in resolving incomplete or unclear data 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook 
• Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to present and defend estimates to internal and external stakeholders 
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines 
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, including guiding less experienced team members 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Previous estimating experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing 
• Familiarity with AS9100 standards and aerospace industry requirements 
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems 
• Experience reviewing customer drawings, specifications, and PO requirements 
• Experience supporting proposal pricing strategy or customer negotiations 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

• This position is primarily performed in an office setting with regular use of a computer and phone. Occasional time on the manufacturing floor is required to review processes, gather cost data, or consult with Operations. Compensation:  

• Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.  
• Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000 
• This is an onsite role at our site in Cypress, CA
