Job Description

A Director of Software Engineering at Rove will lead the engineering strategy, execution, and technical architecture behind Rove’s shopping and dining products. This role will be focused on the earn side of the program, responsible for building the systems that let users earn Rove Miles across thousands of merchants, card-linked offers, dining partners, gift cards, browser extension experiences, merchant onboarding, personalized offers, direct merchant integrations, attribution flows, transaction tracking, rewards posting, fraud controls, and partner integrations.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role for someone who can set technical direction, manage execution across multiple workstreams, and still operate close to the code when needed. The ideal candidate has experience building high-scale consumer marketplace, commerce, fintech, rewards, affiliate, or card-linked offer products and is excited to make shopping and dining core pillars of the Rove ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering for Rove Shopping and Rove Dining across web, mobile, card-linking, backend, browser extension, merchant onboarding, partner integrations, and internal tooling.
  • Own the technical architecture for merchant feeds, offer ingestion, attribution, click tracking, transaction tracking, rewards calculation, reversals, personalized offer delivery, and user-facing earning experiences.
  • Build and scale direct merchant integrations, affiliate network integrations, card-linked offer platforms, dining networks, payment partners, merchant partners, and loyalty infrastructure providers.
  • Develop Rove’s merchant onboarding portal, enabling merchants to launch offers, manage campaigns, review performance, configure rewards, and integrate directly with Rove.
  • Build systems for personalized offers, including targeting, segmentation, offer ranking, experimentation, eligibility rules, and performance optimization.
  • Develop reliable systems for transaction lifecycle management, including pending miles, confirmed miles, reversals, merchant exclusions, missing miles claims, and customer support workflows.
  • Partner closely with product, design, operations, marketing, partnerships, and customer support to launch new earning products quickly and reliably.
  • Set engineering standards for performance, observability, data accuracy, security, fraud prevention, and operational resilience.
  • Build tools and dashboards that help Rove monitor merchant performance, offer quality, conversion, reward liability, fraud patterns, campaign performance, and partner economics.
  • Improve the browser extension, shopping portal, dining product, merchant onboarding experience, and mobile shopping experiences to increase activation, conversion, merchant adoption, and repeat usage.
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage engineers as the Shopping & Dining (Earn) engineering team grows.
  • Balance speed and quality in a fast-moving startup environment while creating systems that can scale to millions of users, thousands of merchant campaigns, and billions in transaction volume.

Qualifications

  • Strong engineering leadership experience, ideally managing or leading teams responsible for high-scale consumer, commerce, marketplace, fintech, loyalty, or rewards products.
  • Deep backend engineering experience with a strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, event-driven architecture, and financial or rewards transaction flows.
  • Experience building products involving transaction tracking, attribution, affiliate marketing, card-linked offers, payments, merchant data, personalized offers, direct merchant integrations, or consumer rewards.
  • Strong product intuition and ability to translate complex partner, merchant, and operational requirements into simple, reliable user experiences.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with partnerships, operations, marketing, product, design, customer support, and merchant-facing teams.
  • High ownership mindset with the ability to operate strategically while still diving into technical details.
  • Strong understanding of data accuracy, reconciliation, fraud prevention, campaign measurement, and operational tooling.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and managing high-performing engineers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving ability, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Passion for travel, rewards, loyalty programs, commerce, and building consumer products that people love.
