About the Role

We're hiring a leader for our Internal Analysis team — the team that turns Mixpanel's own data into the decisions that shape our product and our business. This is the team behind the numbers — the data platform every analyst at Mixpanel builds on, and the insight engine that helps Product and Go-To-Market leaders see what's working, what isn't, and where to push next.

We're posting this role open to either Senior Manager or Director level. Final leveling will be determined by the candidate's experience and scope. Strong Senior Managers ready for a step-up in responsibility are encouraged to apply alongside seasoned Director-level candidates.

You'll lead two complementary disciplines under one roof. Our Analytics Engineers own the data warehouse on BigQuery, data ingestion, data orchestration, modeling raw event and operational data through a medallion architecture into trusted platinum tables — the foundation that Business Analysts across the company and our own Data Scientists rely on every day. Our Data Scientists work the other side of that foundation, partnering with Product to refine the user experience and with GTM to sharpen how we grow. Together, they make Mixpanel a company that runs on its own data.

This role is a blend of technical leadership, people development, and business judgment. You'll own the technical bar for how we model, govern, and instrument our data. You'll coach senior ICs through ambiguous questions where the right answer isn't obvious. And you'll make sure the team's work lands — that the signals we surface actually change what the company does.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Develop: Build, coach, and grow a high-performing team of Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists. Invest in career development, hold a high bar for craft, and create an environment where strong technical people do their best work.
  • Own the Data Platform: Lead the evolution of our BigQuery warehouse, dbt models, and medallion architecture. Ensure platinum tables are reliable, well-documented, and trusted — they are the source of truth that the rest of the company depends on.
  • Drive Insight That Moves the Business: Partner with Product and GTM leadership to identify the questions that matter most. Hold your team to a standard of insight, not just analysis — the work should change decisions, not just describe them.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Serve as the senior data partner to teams across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, CS, and Finance. Translate business questions into analytical approaches, and translate analytical findings into clear recommendations.
  • Raise the Technical Bar: Set standards for SQL, dbt practices, data modeling, experimentation methodology, and statistical rigor. Establish the review processes and documentation norms that keep quality high as the team scales.
  • Hire the Best: Build a pipeline of top Analytics Engineering and Data Science talent. Hire people who elevate the team and contribute to an inclusive, collaborative culture.
  • Communicate & Manage Change: Translate company strategy into clear priorities for the team. Guide your direct reports through evolving business needs with empathy and clarity.
  • Innovate & Eat Our Own Dog Food: We use Mixpanel to understand Mixpanel. Find new ways to combine our warehouse, our product analytics, and our experimentation tools to set an example of what data-driven looks like.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Has progressive experience in data and analytics in a B2B SaaS environment, including 3+ years of people management — ideally with exposure to both Analytics Engineering and Data Science. More senior candidates with experience leading a centralized analytics function are also encouraged to apply.
  • Brings strong technical fluency in the modern data stack: SQL, dbt, data warehouse design (BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar), and medallion or similar layered modeling patterns.
  • Understands the Data Science craft well enough to coach it — experimentation design, causal inference fundamentals, and the judgment to know when a sophisticated method is warranted versus when a clear chart will do.
  • Has partnered closely with Product and GTM leaders, and has a track record of analytical work that materially changed how a company operates.
  • Demonstrates a "player-coach" mentality — comfortable getting into a model review or a SQL deep-dive, but able to step back and lead through others.
  • Communicates complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Is a natural mentor and developer of talent, with a history of building inclusive, high-achieving teams.
  • Handles ambiguity well, balances competing demands, and stays focused on the highest-leverage work.

Bonus Points

  • Direct experience with BigQuery, dbt, and Mixpanel or other product analytics tools (Amplitude, Heap, Pendo).
  • Hands-on experience in a centralized analytics function that serves both Product and GTM organizations.
  • Familiarity with experimentation platforms and the operational side of running a healthy A/B testing program.
  • Background in PLG and/or hybrid go-to-market motions.
