Job Description
About Kilvin
Kilvin is an AI-native software agency that builds custom internal tools for non-technical teams. We deliver everything through our platform: a shared workspace for our clients to access and interact with their software. We believe strongly in the principle of personal software: technology purpose-built for the individual, and that AI-enabled software generation provides the greatest opportunity to bring personal software to the masses.
Founded by Chris and Jorrie - MIT CS grads and former Googlers.
The role
We are able to deliver faster than traditional agencies in thanks to our proprietary build pipeline and hosted workspace platform that's been battle-tested in client deployments across healthcare, finance, and operations applications. We're now investing in the next iteration of that platform: transforming it into a self-serve tool for a more technical audience.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll own core pieces of that system. You'll work directly with our CTO and Head of Engineering on the infrastructure that turns "we need a tool for X" into a running, integrated, access-controlled application. This is a high-ownership role: small team, real users from day one, and decisions that shape the product for years.
What you'll work on
- The app runtime and workspace - how custom apps are deployed, isolated, and served to clients inside a single secure environment.
- The build & deploy pipeline - the AI-assisted system that takes a user request from requirements to specs to software takes requirements to working software.
- Multi-tenancy and access control - tenant isolation, fine-grained permissions (who can open which app and see which data), and the auth model underneath it.
- Integrations - a framework for connecting client apps to the CRMs, spreadsheets, email, and databases they already rely on, so data moves cleanly between systems.
- Reliability & observability - monitoring, performance, and the tooling that lets a small team run many production deployments with confidence.
What we're looking for
- Experience with LLM orchestration or AI-assisted code generation in production.
- 3+ years building and operating production software, with meaningful time spent on platform, infrastructure, or backend systems.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, data modeling, and API design.
- Experience with multi-tenancy, auth/permissions, or sandboxing.
- Comfort owning systems end to end: you can design it, ship it, operate it, and debug it in production.
- A bias toward shipping. You're energized by a fast build–test–iterate loop and real users, not by long specs.
Nice to have
- Experience at an early-stage startup or as an early/founding engineer.
- Background in regulated domains (healthcare, finance) and the compliance that comes with them.
- You've built developer-facing or internal platforms that other people built on top of.
Our stack
We care more about strong engineers who are comfortable with AI-assisted development workflows; if you've gone deep somewhere adjacent, we want to talk.
- We work in TypeScript end to end, maintaining a single monorepo spanning frontend, backend, and CLI tooling.
- Our frontend is React; the backend is Node.js services on Express, talking to PostgreSQL through Prisma.
- Auth and sessions run on a modern auth library, and the whole platform is deployed to AWS, with infrastructure managed as code in Terraform.
- Our build-and-deploy pipeline leans heavily on modern LLM tooling to turn requirements into working software.
Logistics
- Location: Remote within the US. We have a strong preference for candidates in or near NYC, Denver, or Philadelphia for periodic in-person collaboration.
- Compensation: Competitive salary plus meaningful early-stage equity. We offer health benefits through a QSEHRA: a tax-free monthly reimbursement toward your health insurance premiums and qualified medical expenses. We're happy to discuss specifics early in the process.
Interview Process
- Intro call (~30 min). A quick conversation with one of our founders to get to know each other, walk through the role, and answer your questions.
- Technical interview / AI coding session. Pair programming session with one of our engineers to build a piece of software the way we actually do it. Idea here is to give both you and us a sense of how we can work together.
- In-person with the founders. Get into how we work with clients, and make sure Kilvin is the right fit for both sides.
- Decision. We move fast - you'll hear back quickly, with an offer if it's a match.
