Senior Software Developer

About Us: We are Hestus, and we build AI-powered CAD to speed up the hardware development process. Our team is small, scrappy, and growing fast. We are looking for an experienced and driven Senior Software Engineer to join us. If you like to own problems end-to-end and are passionate about technology, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

• Own the design, architecture, and delivery of core systems end-to-end: from ambiguous problems to shipped, maintained products.
• Partner with founders to turn fuzzy goals into technical roadmaps, and drive them to ship.
• Set and raise the engineering bar: code review, testing standards, and architectural direction across the codebase.
• Lead the design and productionization of the machine learning systems behind our AI-powered CAD.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects: from everyday bugs to systemic issues in performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Build on and improve our engineering practices (CI/CD, testing, observability) as the team and product grow.
• Help shape our engineering culture and team as we grow.

Requirements:

• 7+ years building and shipping production software.
• Deep proficiency in Python and experience designing backend services that scale (e.g., Django, Flask, SQL).
• Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning models in production.
• Track record of owning systems end-to-end and making sound architectural tradeoffs with limited direction.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a track record of raising the technical bar of the teams you work with.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals

Bonus Skills:

• CAD, geometry, or computational-geometry domain experience.
• C#/.NET (some add-ins are C#).
• Experience packaging and shipping native desktop applications on Windows and macOS, including code signing.
• Deep AWS / cloud / infrastructure / DevOps experience at scale.
• Early-stage startup or 0→1 product experience.

Interview Process

Our application process consists of five steps:

1. Short Survey: After reviewing your resume, if you meet the minimum requirements, we will send you a short questionnaire via email. This should take no longer than 15 minutes.
2. Initial Call: After successful review of the survey, we will conduct an initial call via Google Meet. It will help us get to know you better and discuss your background and interests. It will also give you an opportunity to learn more about our company culture and the role.  The scheduling link will be provided in a future email.
3. Coding Challenge: If the initial call goes well, we will send you a coding challenge that should take no longer than 8 hours to complete. This challenge will help us assess your coding skills and problem-solving abilities in a practical context.
4. Interviews: Upon successful completion of the coding challenge, we will schedule a series of technical interviews, where you will meet our team including the CEO and CTO. We will invite you over to our office in San Mateo if you are based in the Bay Area. For candidates who reside outside of the Bay Area, we will do the interview via Google Meet. These interviews will further assess your technical skills and problem-solving abilities relevant to the position.
5. Offer: Upon successful completion of the technical interviews, we will discuss the terms of employment and extend a formal offer to you.
