We are seeking a collaborative, strategic, and execution-focused engineering leader to shape the digital experiences that millions of people have with CLEAR. As a Director of Engineering, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for building and scaling our consumer products across the CLEAR mobile app, website, digital enrollment experiences, marketing technology, and Concierge platform. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and business leaders to create intuitive, high-performing experiences that drive acquisition, engagement, conversion, and member satisfaction.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical leadership with a deep understanding of consumer product development, building high-performing teams that move quickly while maintaining quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and grow multiple engineering teams responsible for CLEAR's consumer experiences across mobile, web, marketing technology, and Concierge products.
- Define and execute the technical strategy for customer-facing applications, ensuring scalable, reliable, and performant experiences that delight millions of members.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and Business stakeholders to prioritize roadmaps that improve acquisition, conversion, engagement, retention, and member satisfaction.
- Drive engineering excellence by establishing best practices around architecture, delivery, quality, observability, and operational performance.
- Build highly collaborative relationships across Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and Marketing to rapidly deliver customer value through experimentation and continuous iteration.
- Champion modern engineering practices, enabling teams to move quickly while maintaining reliability, security, and technical quality.
- Develop engineering managers and senior engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, accountability, and continuous growth.
- Use data, experimentation, and customer insights to inform technical investments and continuously improve the digital member experience.
What You're Great At:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 6+ years leading engineering teams and 3+ years managing engineering managers.
- Proven experience leading multiple teams building and scaling consumer-facing digital products, including mobile applications, web platforms, or customer acquisition experiences.
- Strong technical background designing scalable distributed systems and modern cloud-native applications.
- Experience partnering closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and Analytics to deliver customer-centric experiences and measurable business outcomes.
- Demonstrated success building high-performing engineering organizations that balance speed, quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong understanding of experimentation, A/B testing, analytics, and data-informed product development.
- Exceptional communicator who can influence technical and business leaders while aligning cross-functional organizations around a shared vision.
- Passion for developing engineering talent and creating an inclusive, high-performing culture where teams can do their best work.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a strong sense of ownership and continuous improvement.

The total compensation range for this role is $435,000-$535,000 depending on levels of skills and experience.
This range represents the combined base salary, annual bonus incentive, and new hire equity package (in Restricted Stock Units) for this position at CLEAR. Additionally, this role will be eligible for refresh equity grants as part of our ongoing compensation program. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, location, education, skills, experience, and performance. All stock based compensation will be subject to the terms and conditions of applicable agreements.
