Job Description
About Cair Health
Backed by Y Combinator, Foundation Capital, Soma Capital, and other amazing investors, Cair Health has raised over $3M to build the agent-operated revenue cycle management platform for healthcare. We're at $1M+ ARR, profitable, and grew 21x last year. Our customers include clinics, MSOs, digital health companies, EHRs, FQHCs, billing companies, and more.
Day to day, we work with operations leaders, heads of RCM, billers, and sometimes engineers. But the product itself is deeply technical, and every account eventually needs someone who can configure the system, troubleshoot integrations, or work directly with a customer's engineering team on our APIs and their data flow.
About the role
We're hiring our first Forward Deployed Engineer to land inside our biggest customer accounts and build what doesn't exist yet. You scope a build, ship it, get it working in production, and move to the next one. Some days, that's writing integration code against a customer's EHR. Other days, it's deploying and tuning agents to fit a specific workflow. You're the person who takes a customer's messy reality and turns it into a working system, fast.
As our first hire in this function, you'll build the patterns and tooling that every future FDE hire inherits.
What you'll do
- Land inside a customer account, scope what needs to be built, ship it, then move to the next build
- Build EHR integrations and connect a customer's disconnected internal systems, spreadsheets, and everything else into Cair, so it can all run through our agents automatically
- Deploy, configure, and tune agents for each customer's specific revenue cycle setup
- Debug issues live, often under time pressure
- Decide what should get generalized into the core product versus staying a one-off build, and hand that off to our platform team
- Build the internal tooling, scripts, and agents that make the next build faster than the last
- Bring what you learn in the field back to product and engineering as clear, prioritized input
Required
You'll need a CS degree or equivalent hands-on experience and 3+ years in a technical, customer-facing role (solutions engineering, forward deployed engineering, implementation, or technical customer success).
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, comfortable owning something from design through production
- Experience writing Python (or similar), SQL, and React on the front end
- Working knowledge of REST APIs
- Experience with AWS and GCP
- Comfortable with Docker, both running things locally and deploying them
- Hands-on experience building or working with AI agents
- Comfortable using AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, OpenCode, or similar) as part of your daily workflow, you ship faster because you use these tools well
- Comfortable with ambiguity, ok jumping between writing code and sitting on a live customer call
Nice to have
- Experience with EHR integrations, claims/billing systems, or healthcare APIs
- Early-stage startup experience wearing multiple hats
- Healthcare or RCM background
- Prior experience as a forward-deployed engineer, solutions engineer, or similar embedded engineering role
